The EFL season is finally upon us and William Hill are offering a generous price boost to kick-off the campaign. It begins with a chance to profit on a match between teams that were two divisions apart last term. Sheffield Wednesday returned to the Championship, after a two-year absence, in dramatic style in coming back from a 4-0 first leg deficit to reach the League One play-off final on penalties, only to win at Wembley with a 123rd minute diving header, could sparks fly in a similar vein this evening too?
Russell Martin has taken the reins at newly relegated Southampton and will likely deploy the most possession-based system in the division, possibly closely rivalled by Enzo Maresca at Leicester City. The Scotsman will continue to trust the process, even though it has seen many individual errors lead to goals in the last two seasons when managing Swansea City, potentially something that Sheff Wed and bettors can capitalise on this evening.
William Hill are offering serious value to bettors by boosting a goal to be scored in the first half from 1.40 to 2.00.

Sheff Weds v Southampton
This time last season Burnley announced themselves to the rest of the division in beating Huddersfield Town 1-0 on the EFL’s opening night. The performance was far more eye-catching than the scoreline and demonstrated a little of what Burnley were capable of achieving, Russell Martin and Southampton will be desperate to follow in their footsteps.
Sheff Wed supporters will have wonderful memories of their last competitive match at Hillsborough, and the atmosphere is sure to be electric under the lights. It is going to be fascinating to see how experienced Championship campaigners in the form of Dominic Iorfa, Barry Bannan and Josh Windass fare against the unknowns at the level of Carlos Alcaraz, James Ward-Prowse and even Saints summer addition from Manchester City, Shea Charles.
Sheff Wed were flat track bullies at times in League One last season, but the Saints’ vibrant attack could cause them plenty of problems, the sort that would see this price boost cop. Kamaldeen Sulemana will miss this one through injury, but Martin can still choose from the likes of Carlos Alcaraz, Nathan Tella, Che Adams, Adam Armstrong, Samuel Edozie and Joe Aribo in the final third.
The hosts are amongst the relegation favourites for a reason and could find themselves on the back foot from the off. 2+ match goals is priced up a 1.33, so for just one of those to come in the first half at evens presents excellent value.
The maximum stake for this offer is £10.
