⚔️ Gameweek 15 Review – 64 Points (50 Average)
Back to a rank rise and green arrows! Having only 9 players wasn’t the best move, but we still had a decent week. As usual, my midfield was the core of my points with Palmer (18pts) going big again, keeping Mbeumo paying off with 13pts, scoring one and assisting another and Bruno (9pts) getting back to form with another return.
Not the best return from my forward line, but with the amount of quality I have, I’m not concerned. Defence, as usual, hasn’t amassed many points but there was a shining light … I took a huge risk and captained Konsa (16pts), luckily it paid off with a double-digit haul to my delight. Overall, a good week considering the obstacles thrown in.
📋 Gameweek 15 Transfer Recap
Each week so you know @FplVeteran is doing the demanding work for you, we revisit key decisions from last week’s review. This GW we revisit my transfers In. With Salah having his game called off, this week was not the best however Aston Villa goalkeeper Martinez was a good shout, every cloud!

✅ The Best 3 Transfers IN for Gameweek 16
🏴 Bukayo Saka – Arsenal (£10.5m, 42%)
With the most assists (10) so far this season and with 5 goals and 16 bonus points on top, Saka is a great option for all to see. But it’s his involvement in what seems every single attacking return for Arsenal that also increases his selection appeal.
In addition, Everton, Crystal Palace, and Ipswich as his next three opponents are just too good to miss for a player that can rack up huge hauls, especially against the bottom-placed sides. Saka has registered 12 points V Wolves, 16 points V Southampton, and 18 pts V West Ham; how many he gets against a 15th-placed Everton in poor form is anyone’s guess, but I want a piece of the action. At this stage, I am considering attacking Everton just like Southampton, weekly and aggressively.
🇸🇪 Alexander Isak – Newcastle (£8.6m, 20%)
This inclusion stings. I took him out 2 GWs ago for Jackson and it couldn’t have gone any worse. Over that period, Jackson only played 1 game and amassed 2 points whereas Isak racked up 19 points, it’s FPL, it happens. Currently, 200k managers have transferred him in and with Leicester and Ipswich defences up next, you can see why.
Strikers, Haaland, Wood, Cunha, and Wissa are bonus points magnets and Isak is no exception. 12 bonus points in 13 games is a fair return but this will improve greatly and quickly. With Newcastle finally clicking and improving in the goals department(6 goals in the last 3 games), I expect Isak to repeat his performances of last season, often returning braces, assists, and high bonus points in the same game.
I always own players for the potential huge upsides and Isak is one of those players. Currently with 6 goals scored, he will have to up his game if he is to match last season’s tally of 21 and help push Newcastle up to the European spots. Often, players we take out of our teams, we find it hard to bring back so soon, but this is a case where I may have to admit defeat and return the Swede to my front line.
🇫🇷 William Saliba – Arsenal (£6.2m, 27%)
Usually, it’s a tough option between Saliba and Gabriel to choose, but now we currently don’t have this option. Gabriel has missed the last 2 games due to injury and with Arteta always being vague about even if his players are available for games, then I wouldn’t count on Gabriel being fit. This makes Saliba a much more secure option and at a premium price of £6.2m, I wouldn’t take the risk.
His attacking threat is prevalent as he has scored in the last 2 games V Man United and Fulham. You would think because of that he isn’t due to score again for a while but that’s not the way FPL works. Last season Saliba scored 2 goals all season, he will definitely beat that and could double or triple it. Combine this with the clean sheets Arsenal often keep and he is a sound pick. He could enter my team; I’m giving it great deliberation.
❌ The Best 3 Transfers OUT for Gameweek 13
🇳🇴 Erling Haaland – Man City (£14.9m, 42%)
Almost the top transferred player is out for a second week running with another 150k managers dropping the Norwegian robot for now. There will come a time when he is back on the menu, but until he starts hitting mega hauls again, it won’t be anytime soon. I said all season that he is too expensive and finally managers have seen the light!
Haaland can score against anyone, so fixtures-wise it isn’t overly relevant, but Everton, Leicester, West Ham, Ipswich, and Brentford in the next 7 games is a great run of games. This started as a Transfer out plug but has kind of morphed into a keep plug. For now, take him out and reuse the funds, but he will fire again soon, the question is when?
🏴 Emile Smith-Rowe – Fulham (£5.5m, 20%)
Blanks, many, many blanks. To be fair to ESR, he has 2x double-digit hauls this season, but in the remaining 13 games, he has virtually blanked all of them. Fulham don’t score many goals and to have an attacking midfielder of any price in your squad not scoring goals is a problem you need to deal with.
With other options you can turn to in the same price bracket (Diallo, Damsgaard, Enzo) it feels like a wasted spot in your team. As an owner way back in GW1 I get the appeal, but he just is not developing as we have all through this season. With the January transfer window now coming up, Fulham will strengthen, and this is not good news for ESR, I can see his minutes being reduced and even benched, from time to time.
Either add funds and buy a slightly better player or drop the value of a player and choose a non-player to sit on your bench. Depending on your team, only you can make that decision.
🏴 Injured/Suspended Players
A quick rundown of those to consider transferring out.
- Lewis suspended until 21st Dec.
- Konate injured, unknown return date.
- Keane injured, unknown return date.
- Antonio injured, unknown return date.
- Veltman, 50/50 return for GW16.
- Romero, 70/30 return for GW16.
- Vicario injured, unknown return date.
- Kovacic injured, unknown return date.
Top Tip – A Full playing squad. We often forget that outside circumstances can often affect our teams, so we have to be prepared. Over the years we have had many postponement’s due to many varied factors but this week it was because of the British weather. Even a manager such as myself who has been playing FPL for the last 20 years sometimes needs reminding not to forget this key rule. I only had 9 players scoring points which is not ideal for rank, so take heed and ensure you have at least 14 playing players. If you do, you will benefit greatly when ultimately it happens again.
🦸 Gameweek 16 Captaincy Selections
🏴 Bukayo Saka – Arsenal (£10.5m, 42%)
At last, we’re selecting a different option than either Haaland or Salah for what feels like an eternity. He is my first transfer in this GW, and he is also my captaincy choice for GW16. Yes, there are games where he goes slightly missing, but most matches he has played in he’s returned and with huge hauls. Points-wise, 16, 12 and 18 were games in which Saka was involved in every single thing attacking for Arsenal.
Next up (at home) he has a defensively poor Everton side who were spared a Liverpool battering due to their derby being called off due to the weather. I now foresee Arsenal inflicting a heavy defeat on them, with Saka at the heart of it! Not often do I transfer in a player and then captain them, GW though I am and maybe you should also do.
Alternative Captain Options
Though Salah isn’t my top captain pick this week, he is not far behind. A home game doesn’t make it any easier to drift to a different selection, so there is still the option to play safe if you like.
Elsewhere Pedro V Crystal Palace, Isak V Leicester, and Son/Solanke V Southampton are also great options. Top three for me this GW is: Saka – Salah – Son
👁️ FPL Veteran’s Vision and Verdict
After being reduced to 9 players, I need to remedy my full 15-man squad to ensure that doesn’t happen again and lose the chance to gain more points. The majority of my players are at home – always a good thing – and play the bottom half of teams for the most part. I crumbled and used a transfer for GW15, but I couldn’t get around it. Veltman’s transfer in didn’t go to plan, missing the last three games so he has to go. The question is for who and this week or next? The biggest decision for me on GW16 is who will be my captain?
