I am very active within the FPL community and run a monthly meet called FPL EDINBURGH meets. We get together, watch the games and meet the person behind the twitter handle. I also run a podcast called @_TheDoublePivot chatting football matchups and how that translates into FPL picks - I have also been a guest on many other FPL shows. I love F1 fantasy, keeping fit, and spending time with family.

In this article...

As the Salah v Haaland battle rages on, let’s talk everything GW4, including Manchester turning blue, Spurs keeping another clean sheet & where our points did or didn’t come from. Here you will find all the essential weekly FPL info you need to ensure you top those mini leagues!

You can also follow our Fantasy Premier League Football Tips throughout the season for gameweekly insights and opinions.

The 25/26 season is on its way, and our experts will begin to roll out their Premier League Predictions soon, so now is the perfect time to get involved. We will remain across all the action on the continent, the EFL, and in Scotland in our various Football Betting Tips & Predictions, with fresh tips available here on Andy's Bet Club every day.

⚔️ Gameweek 4 Review - 72 Points (63 Average)

Wildcard successfully played! It was defence this GW with the majority of heavy lifting as Virgil, Vicario & Porro all registering clean sheets and sprinkled with some bonus points for good measure too.

Midfield didn’t execute as planned with both Liverpool players blanking v Burnley & Reijnders missed a guilt edged one on one. Eze at least steadied the ship with an assist, thankfully. The robot Haaland was doing Haaland things, but it possibly could and should have been even more, but I’ll take a good return from my captain pick, though.

In isolation, I still think the Richarlison pick was justified, and Spurs did win 3-0 away at West Ham. It's just frustrating. He started on the bench when it was already that score. Overall, a great week and nice green arrow to push on and begin our ascendancy to the top.

💎 Gameweek 5 Gem Pick

🇫🇷 Jean-Philippe Mateta – Crystal Palace (£7.6m, 12.1%)

  • High ceiling points

  • Low owned

  • West Ham have conceded 14 goals in five matches

Possibly many would think transferring a player who has so far blanked in all four games this season is risky... Not on this page its not. We don’t conform to the easy and groupthink picks; we look for opportunity and those high ceiling player picks that many have often discarded as nothing but old news.

FPL managers don’t start discussing players until they return, and I predict there will be much discussion about the Palace striker next week. He plays a West Ham side that are in relegation form, conceding 14 goals in five games (all competitions) and, more worrying for Hammers fans, conceding eight goals in the last two home matches.

Their defence loves conceding to number 9 positional players, with Strand-Larsen, Pedro & Mayenda all scoring against them. The writing is on the wall for Graham Potter & I think not even the best incantations can save him (I can’t stop the Harry Potter references, clearly). I fancy Mateta to get double digits here.

The Best 2 Transfers IN for Gameweek 5

🇬🇭 Antoine Semenyo - Bournemouth (£7.5m, 39.7%)

  • Cheap, set and forget player

  • Plays 90mins every game

  • Great next five fixtures

With a goal and assist in GW4 for his second double-digit score of the season in just four matches, it’s no surprise he’s my first transfer in. Clearly, many other managers feel the same, with almost 40% now owning him and rising in value by £0.5m.

With great fixtures of Leeds, Fulham & Forest on the horizon, the points will continue. Semenyo, the current highest scoring midfielder in the game, has already performed well in tough matches against Liverpool, Brighton & Spurs.

Also, it seems he is the secure penalty taker, taking one against Brighton when Evanilson was still on the pitch. Especially in this GW, we’ve seen that penalty takers are crucial to the game and our score. He plays 90 minutes every match and is the top transfer in this GW by far.

🇳🇱 Micky van de Ven – Tottenham (£4.6m, 30.5%)

  • Three returns from four, including 2x double-digit hauls

  • Cheap enabler you can leave on the bench if required

  • High attacking threat

Hey Mickey, you're so fine... at scoring FPL points. Three out of four returns and this week capping it off with a goal, clean sheet & two bps for a monster 14 pointer! I said pre-season that Spurs are not the team they used to be and have a greater degree of balance throughout the whole squad, which seems to be coming to fruition.

With Mickey being so cheap, it won’t be long until he is in the template team and most managers own him, almost a third of the game now do. At £4.6M, he could even stay on your bench if required. Personally, I own Porro & Vicario, but I am not put off by the triple up and with Leeds, Wolves, Aston Villa, and Everton, their next fixtures, I very well may play a triple Spurs defence.

High risk, high reward is how we do it here! If using two FTs this week, here is your second easy move.

The Best Transfer OUT for Gameweek 5

🇩🇪 Florian Wirtz– Liverpool (£8.4m, 18%)

  • Blanked in every game this season

  • Tough upcoming fixtures

  • Fails the eye test

Burnley was the last chance I gave him, at least that’s what the plan was. Wirtz has found it hard to adapt to the Premier League, and four blanks in a row confirm that. I think most managers agree with me that if he can't do it against Burnley, tough upcoming matches against Everton, Palace, and Chelsea won't help things. The stats aren’t much better with just 0.14 Xg, 0.19Xa & 0.33Xgi per 90mins.

Though only mid-priced at £8.4m, there are currently many better options; you could buy Semenyo and have almost £1m in change. Applying the eye test, I do see some good things from him, but think physicality wise it has been tough in order to adapt. I’m certain there will be a time to own him this season, but that time isn’t now.

With the midweek Champions League, you never know, he might even be benched at the weekend. For me, he’s getting the Everton game, but I see why managers have lost patience and are transferring him out.

🩹 Injury Update for Gameweek 5

With the top two players transferred out this GW due to injury (Ait-Nouri, Aina), this is a great time to update the masses on those injuries that may have passed FPL managers by.

With more football played this season than ever domestically and internationally, we need to expect this amount of injuries to continue... Unfortunately.

Out

  • Rayan Ait-Nouri

  • Ola Aina

  • Matheus Cunha

  • Omar Marmoush

  • Ismaila Sarr

  • Rayan Cherki

  • Jacob Ramsey

  • Bukayo Saka

  • Alex Moreno

  • Jorgeb Strand Larsen

  • Dominic Solanke

  • Diogo Dalot

  • Liam Delap

  • Yoane Wissa

  • Anthony Gordon

  • Ki-Jana Hoever

Doubtful

  • William Saliba

  • Murillo

  • Maxim De Cuyper

  • Martin Odegaard

  • Daniel Ballard

  • Youri Tielemans

Closer to the deadline, ensure you re-check the press conferences. Some of those doubts may become fit

🦸 Gameweek 5 Captaincy Calls

🇫🇷 Jean-Philippe Mateta - Crystal Palace (£7.6m, 12.1%)

  • Main attacking outlet with Sarr injured

  • Four goals in the last five v West Ham

  • On penalties

  • West Ham can't keep a clean sheet and have conceded eight goals in the last two games (home)

  • Arguably the best fixture for GW5

🎯 Target Game

West Ham v Crystal Palace

With so many tough fixtures this week, this is the pick of the bunch & one that could also offer the highest goals. West Ham need a huge performance, and the pressure will be massive at the London Stadium.

They will come out looking for a goal, and I think that plays into the hands of Crystal Palace’s wing-back system, especially Munoz and Mitchell. The game will likely become stretched, which usually means goals and entertainment.

I was surprised at the high return from just three legs, it looks great value as a treble at 4/1.

🧠 Gameweek 5 Team - Early Thoughts

I have a benching headache, which is nice to have. Only FT I am thinking of honesty is Wirtz for Semenyo, but with midweek games, I will make a late call. Set up well for the next 4-8 GWs with 3 FTs in the bag.
