⚔️ Gameweek 5 Review – 63 Points (58 Average)
Another week ahead of the average and currently without Haaland, it’ll take it! Raya (4pts) totalled 9 saves against a tough Man City side, with the remainder of my defence scoring even higher. Konsa (9pts) conceded again but made up for it by scoring, Liverpool kept a clean sheet with Trent (11pts) finally adding an attacking return.
A mixed midfield and forward line with Mbeumo (8pts) and Salah (6pts) doing the business but with my Brighton assets starting from the bench, they had insignificant effect. Watkins (6pts) continues his current goal-scoring form, but Isak (2pts) is yet to find his, becoming overpriced for his current points return.
📋 Gameweek 5 Transfer Recap
Each week so you know @FplVeteran is doing the hard work for you all, we revisit key decisions from last weeks review. My transfers in were bang on the money and returned a solid 5.6 points per player. Ensure you come back next week for the next set of players in, to give you a vital points boost!
✅ The Best 3 Transfers IN for Gameweek 6
🏴 Tyler Dibling – Southampton (£4.5m, 1.2%)
Don’t rub your eyes, I am in fact starting with a lesser-known Southampton player as my first transfer in! With player values rising significantly, you need to find that uncovered gem, that allows you to have the best players in your squad, step forward cheapest midfielder Tyler Dibling.
Southampton don’t have much to shout about this season, but this lad is the first thing they can be excited about. In his first match over 80 minutes, he scored a much-needed goal, kept his clean sheet point (as he was subbed off at 81mins) and took all 3 bonus points (11 total); showcasing exactly why there is such buzz around the 18-year-old. A full playing £4.5M midfielder with Leicester and Bournemouth in the next three, is too good an opportunity I can’t ignore.
🇨🇴 Luis Diaz – Liverpool (£7.9, 30.0%)
With 3 double-digit hauls in his last 5, it’s no surprise the current top-performing midfielder in FPL is transferred in this gameweek. Over 600,000 managers concur with me, and now we know for certain Diaz is nailed in the starting eleven, it’s time to bring him in. Defensively poor Wolves and Crystal Palace are up next for the Colombian attacker, who should get another two big points hauls, possibly already eclipsing last season’s goal tally of 8. Luis Diaz is a much-improved player from last season and as such we need to start recognising this, get him in!
🇩🇪 Kai Havertz – Arsenal (£8.1m, 17.0%)
Currently slightly forgotten about, but this certainly was not the case after his 12 points in GW1. At 17% he is almost a differential which gives us managers a huge opportunity! Havertz has blanked in the last two games but being vital to anything and everything Arsenal do going forward, simply can not blank in the next fixtures against Leicester, Southampton and Bournemouth. With two of these games at home, Havertz is set to go off! With the news over at rivals Man City of Rodri’s injury and perhaps, unlucky not to leave the Etihad with all 3 points, Arsenal will be invigorated and ruthless. Fairly sure he comes in for me this GW.
❌ The Best 3 Transfers OUT for Gameweek 6
🇧🇷 Joao Pedro – Brighton (£5.6m, 26.5%)
With Brighton’s Mountain of attacking options, it was only a matter of time before Pedro was rotated. With only 19 minutes of playing this GW and Brighton scoring goals from many other positions, there are possibly better options around.
Brighton have a tough set of fixtures against Chelsea, Tottenham and Newcastle so his points will be limited, but his low price of £5.6m possibly means you hold him through this period or if your team is set up well for the next 4-6 GW’s, just bench him. I prefer Welbeck for the increased number of minutes.
🇸🇪 Alexander Isak – Newcastle (£8.3m, 26.5%)
Isak has disappointed me. With a sultry 1 goal and 1 assist in five games against the likes of Southampton, Wolves and Fulham, for a top mid-range price of £8.3m, he hasn’t performed even close to his best and his time has run out. This is coming from an owner, who had hoped for the last few GWs and lost patience.
Watching most of Newcastle’s games this season has highlighted to me that they aren’t up to full speed currently in both attack and defence, and I can’t trust any of their assets. The bottom line is there are cheaper assets with better fixtures, look elsewhere.
🇪🇸 Rodrigo – Man City (£6.4m, 1.8%)
Most managers don’t own him, but it’s the after-effect of his injury that’s the most important. It looks like Rodri is out for the remainder of the season with an ACL injury, which is a huge blow to Man City overall. Look at any stats and long story short, they don’t win as much without him. This affects the already porous Man City backline and currently, I wouldn’t own any Man City defenders apart from Rico Lewis; only due to budget reasons. Own their defenders for the fixtures against the poor attacking teams, but after recently conceding a goal V Ipswich, this proves they can be vulnerable even from the weakest opponents.
Top Tip – If you have not already used the chip, Wildcard now. Yes, your team might be well set up but GW6 forward, there are many heavy fixture swings you need to get ahead of the curve with. You have unlimited transfers so catch many price rises by bringing in players rising in value, then confirm your final team on Friday evening. If you do it right you could catch close to £1m.
🦸 Gameweek 6 Captaincy Selections
🇳🇴 Erling Haaland – Man City (£15.3m, 71.5%)
🇪🇬 Mohamed Salah – Liverpool (£12.8m, 46%)
Normal service is resumed for captaincy. The rates at which these two are racking up points is a sight to behold! We are all aware they are world-class players but the amount of points they are projected to score this season could very well be record-breaking. In my opinion, Salah is the slightly better option with a great record v Wolves with 1 goal and 2 assists in his last three against them. Haaland’s form historically against Newcastle isn’t great with only a single assist in his last 5 against the Magpies, but… it’s Haaland! Both are sound options and as I previously said, this will be the case for the remainder of the season. You can select an alternative captain a GW here or there though and score more points, the hard part is finding which weeks.
Alternative Captain Options
Any Arsenal assets, including defenders, are a sound option! Saka is my top option with Havertz not far behind, but seriously consider attacking Gabriel against a Leicester side that cant deal with any type of cross it seems. I prefer to captain a midfielder and if you want to go slightly leftfield, Mbeumo or Luiz Diaz are also to be considered. If I had to select one from this list, I would go with Saka, he hasn’t blanked in a single game yet!
👁️ FPL Veteran’s Vision and Verdict
We are now in a very important period within FPL in terms of both squad setup and rank. I have used my Wildcard but have 2 Free Transfers (FT) to keep up with managers activating the chip now. Many clubs have good fixture runs, so I will continue to attack this dynamic alongside the worst sides in the league in Southampton, Leicester, Ipswich, and now also Wolves. One more Gameweek without the scoring Robot of Haaland, then he will be transferred in alongside the likes of Saka and one other, it’s currently a 50/50 decision, so performances this weekend will help me decide. I have been above average in 4 of the last 5 Gameweeks but the aim is for some huge, 100+ points scores, gaining me
