NAC v Jong PSV Eindhoven

NAC Breda are a big team in comparison to most clubs in this division and they should be competing according to the fans. This is definitely not the case this season, however they can salvage something if they reach the playoffs at the end of the season. Despite having a poor season it does look like they will achieve this. NAC beat Jong AZ 2-0 on Monday to move into ninth place in the rankings, just ahead of Jong PSV by a one point margin. NAC have won two in a row and have lost just once in their last six league games played. The home record is also quite good, with six wins and just one loss all season. NAC have won or drawn 5 of their last 10 home games played, it is very likely that they will continue this trend.

Jong PSV have lost two straight after winning four in a row. They have won 10 games so far this season but with 11 losses as well they are a bit inconsistent. The youngsters have also lost half of their away games so far this season.

NAC have had their fair share of injury problems during the season, which explains a few poor results. This seems to be a thing of the past now. Yes, Jarchinio Antonia and Mario Bilate are currently still injured – but these two can easily be replaced

With one of Jong PSV’s main defenders Jenson Seelt doubtful, we can consider this a blow to their starting line-up. Emmanuel van de Blaak could replace him but he is also doubtful, and Shurandy Sambo is still recovering from torn ligaments. Damian Timan in midfield is also out, but his injury can be resolved. However, Ruud van Nistelrooij will likely also need to play without starlet Johan Bakayoko. PSV are taking Dennis Vos and Ismael Saibari to their European encounter against Maccabi Tel Aviv as well, so we can rule these players out as well, which is more advantageous for the home side.

FC Emmen v Jong Ajax

Title candidates FC Emmen face off against the Ajax reserve team who are also doing well but have been posting some inconsistent results. FC Emmen are currently second in the standings, with a total of 52 points from their 25 matches played. They have won 16 in total, drawing four and losing five. They also have the best defense if you look at goals allowed, allowing a league best 16 goals. Emmen have also won six straight at home allowing just two goals in those fixtures. The Emmenaren also have a good overall streak built up. They haven’t lost any of their past seven meetings. Emmen have lost just one match from their last fifteen, coincidentally away to Jong Ajax.

Jong Ajax hosted Almere City on Monday and suffered a 3-1 home defeat. They are still in an excellent fourth place, but do now have a total of 8 losses next to 15 wins and 4 draws. This 3-1 defeat follows up from a 6-2 beating at the hands of Excelsior. Jong Ajax have scored no less than 56 goals this season and have also allowed 44. Goals galore!

Teun Bijleveld is out for FC Emmen, and Réda Kharchouch is doubtful as he is hindered by the Coronavirus. There should be adequate replacements for both players though, so I don’t expect this to be a problem.

Jong Ajax also shouldn’t have any major issues, perhaps just the absence of recent loanee Mo Ihattaren, however he has recently joined and not played yet. Apart from this there will be some squad rotation and a few names will be doubtful as they might be with the first team; eg. Mohammed Daramy, Jay Gorter, Mohammed Kudus and Youri Regeer.

ADO Den Haag v Telstar

The fixture between ADO Den Haag and Telstar is still a little bit up in the air. Storm Eunice caused some damage in Holland, and partially destroyed the roof of the stadium, but the match may be played with limited capacity.

ADO Den Haag have been a bit hit and miss lately, winning 2, drawing 1 and losing 2 of their last five including a very surprising 3-2 home loss to MVV. ADO received a 6 point deduction early on in the season due to financial difficulties and problems with the board and a potential takeover. The takeover has still not been completed and there are more trials and court cases surrounding it. Meanwhile one of the season’s revelations: Sem Steijn, 24 apps, 12 goals is close to inking a transfer to FC Twente, he’s about to have a medical and likely will not play. Add him to the list of absentees of Eljero Elia, Darryl Janmaat and first goalkeeper Luuk Koopmans and the options are a little bit thin. It’s possible that second goalkeeper Alessandro Damen is out due to Covid-19 protocols. Eunice ensured for said cancellation of that match, but ADO (as well as FC Eindhoven) had requested for postponement with the Dutch FA for too many cases.

Telstar are your mid-table mediocrity. They are currently 13^th, and have won six games this season, drawing and losing ten. Telstar are struggling to find the net. They have scored only 12 goals in their last 14 league games and it may be a possibility that will continue. Manager Andries Jonker does seem to prefer to stick to his defensive 5-3-2 formation.

Roman Tugarinov is out with a suspension for Telstar, but leading scorer Glynor Plet will return from a suspension, Plet is their leading scorer with 7 goals in 25 matches. Several other players are doubtful or out, which will definitely cause issues for the side: Anwar Bensabouh, Anthony Berenstein, Vincent Regeling, Delvecchio Blackson, Yaël Liesdek, Niels van Wetten, Tom Overtoom and Ozan Kökcu are all in the very least question marks. They are not all starting players but it will cause the club issues and therefore I do see ADO Den Haag winning here.

Volendam v Helmond Sport

It’s top side versus bottom side and Volendam are looking to book another win to get another step closer to promotion. A win would make it six straight home wins. In general Volendam will have no clue what losing entails. They’ve lost just once all season, 3-1 to ADO Den Haag in the 2^nd match round of the season. Volendam have also scored a league best 58 goals.

There’s drama in Helmond and I think this could have a negative effect. The side performed a no-show in their mid-January fixture against Emmen because there were too many Covid-19 cases. The Dutch FA thought differently though and has now given the side a 3 point deduction. This puts Helmond in bottom position. They have also terminated manager Wil Boessen’s contract. Obviously performance has had something to do with this sacking too, and 2 draws and 4 losses in Helmond’s last six games is not very impressive. Nor does winning just one out of their last fifteen league games.

Volendam are likely without Francesco Antonucci, Derry Murkin and Brian Plat. All three are decent players but they have been replaceable by the likes of eg. Benaïssa Benamar and Gaëtano Oristanio. It shouldn’t be a cause for concern.

It remains to be seen whether the new Helmond manager will hit the ground running, but Helmond are dealing with a few injuries to make matters worse. Starting right back Boyd Reith is doubtful, as is his replacement Ilias Breugelmans. Jules Houttequiet and Keyennu Lont are also out, although they are more rotation players.

I’m expecting an easy home win here.

De Graafschap v Den Bosch

De Graafschap are not doing bad at all this season, but I’m not convinced by their offensive output at the moment. They didn’t lose any of their last five league games, but they were given a fortunate penalty in stoppage time hosting Dordrecht, and secured a lucky 2-2. The “Superboeren” have scored only 9 goals in their last 8 games played.

FC Den Bosch are struggling. Despite some very poor recent form, manager Jack de Gier and the club have decided to extend his contract. FC Den Bosch have lost 6 straight and haven’t won their last 10 league games. They lost two key players early in the season, but did make a few interesting signings. I do expect them to book a few decent results for the remainder of the season, but not in this difficult match against De Graafschap. Den Bosch have also scored just two goals in their last six matches played.

De Graafschap should have no squad selection troubles either, although manager Reinier Robbemond is using quite some rotation as a few of their players are underperforming slightly, Mees Kaandorp will probably start on the right wing but he has 0 goals and 2 assists in 11 games. Projected starter Danny Verbeek can play, but is not fully match fit (7 apps)

For FC Den Bosch we can rule Jorn van Hedel out.

With De Graafschap’s goal scoring record, and reasonable defence – they allowed 27 goals in 26 games, we can consider this a home win and possibly also a low scoring match.
