Fulham will be relieved to be returning to Craven Cottage after being back-to-back away defeats v Liverpool and Chelsea, with the former delivering an agonising EFL Cup semi-final exit. Meanwhile, Newcastle were dealt an eighth loss in ten games across all competitions when they suffered a 3-2 defeat at home to Manchester City in the Premier League a few weeks ago.
Fulham were all so close to reaching the next stage of their dream run in the EFL Cup, knocked out 3-2 on aggregate to Liverpool after two highly competitive encounters. Despite the heartbreak, there are certainly lots of positives to take for Marco Silva’s side. It is a quick turnaround again for the Cottagers as they look to hunt down their first major trophy in their 145-year history.
Newcastle will be eager to take a break from some challenging times in the Premier League after recent results. The Magpies are in some very chequered form with 8 defeats in 10, 6 of those coming in the league. Fixtures on the road have proved equally difficult for Newcastle, with one win in their last nine outings which came in the last round against rivals Sunderland. Certainly, some improvements to be made if they’re to get a result here.

⚽ Goals stats: A spectacle at Craven Cottage
Fulham have sported a mixed bag of results recently but their form at Craven Cottage will certainly inspire confidence in this matchup. Fulham have 5 wins in their last 7 outings at home and have shown great scoring form in that time, collecting 17 goals.
Recent victories and a strong cup run should inspire confidence, while six of Fulham’s last 10 games have resulted in over 2.5 goals. With their visitors showing continued struggles at the back and the home venue proving very effective for Fulham of late, we’re expecting goals.
The goals markets certainly look inviting for Newcastle fixtures at the moment, with no fewer than 8 of Newcastle’s last 10 games resulting in at least 3 goals being scored. Unfortunately, for the Magpies this is often seen with them on the receiving end, having conceded 21 goals in that period. This extends to 67% of their league fixtures seeing over 2.5 goals.
However, Newcastle have continued to show their attacking danger as they have been kept at bay on only 8 occasions from their 31 outings across all competitions this season. They face a Fulham side who have kept only 5 clean sheets this season and sport the 6th-worst defensive record in the league.
Two of the previous three meetings have produced three goals or more.
Predictions:
⚽ Both teams to score @ 1.57
⚽ Over 2.5 goals @ 1.73
🎯 Shooting stats: Smooth operating Swede
Alexander Isak has been in great form and has been very clinical in front of goal with 5 goals in his last 4 games.
Isak is averaging an impressive 2.78 shots per 90 this season and 1.51 shots on target per 90 – some strong numbers. These are heavily supported with his recent form, registering a whopping 13 shots over his last 5 outings with 9 on target.
During that period he has managed 2 shots on target in 3 of those 4 outings, against a Fulham side that is conceding 4 shots on target per 90 this season, this could be a great opportunity for the Swede to extend his form. He picked up 2 goals in the last round, this could be his competition.
Fulham’s main man Raul Jimenez looks solid value for Saturday’s matchup. Jimenez averages a respectable 2.56 shots per 90 in the Premier League this season, and 1.13 on target to the same measure. He has found the target at least once in 6 of his last 7 outings – totalling 10 shots on target from 20 attempts in that time.
Predictions:
⚽ Alexander Isak to have 1+ shots on target @ 1.36
⚽ Alexander Isak to have 2+ shots on target @ 2.7
⚽ Raul Jimenez to have 1+ shots on target @ 1.53
⚽ Raul Jimenez to have 2+ shots @ 1.25
🛑 Fouls stats: Central midfield the key battleground
Joao Palhinha continues to grow his powerhouse reputation, flying into tackles and his resilient efforts in the midfield will be pivotal for Fulham if they’re to progress here.
The Portuguese star has been a true merchant of fouls for this season, averaging 1.75 fouls per 90 in the Premier League and committing at least once foul in all but one of his 26 outings for Fulham this season – some serious consistency. He draws 1.99 fouls per 90, alongside posting 1.81 interceptions and 2.83 tackles won to the same measure.
Palhinha has committed 9 fouls across his last 5 outings, and will certainly have his hands full considering the quality in the Newcastle midfield. Palhinha picked up 2 fouls in this fixture a few months ago and facing up against the likes of Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton, his potential for fouls is very strong here.
Speaking of the Brazilian Newcastle duo, Bruno Guimaraes has shown great consistency in drawing fouls over recent weeks and could be felled again on Saturday. He has drawn an average of 2.86 fouls per 90 this season in the Premier League, including a whopping 27 fouls in his last 7 games.
During those 7 outings, Guimaraes has drawn at least 3 fouls in all but one. Fulham are committing an average 9.86 fouls per 90 this season, but Guimaraes could easily be on the end of at least 2 or 3 of those.
Predictions:
⚽ Joao Palhinha to commit 2+ fouls @ 1.44
⚽ Bruno Guimaraes to commit 2+ fouls @ 1.40
⚽ Bruno Guimaraes to be fouled 2+ times @ 1.44
