The Toon will be buoyant, heading into this one after a scintillating performance against Benfica in midweek. A slightly slow start, but overall one of their best outings of the campaign so far. They’re well fancied at 1.62 in the win market.

Fulham have slipped down to 15th following three straight losses and face another tough task here, after struggling to break down Arsenal in their last match.

There are Newcastle v Fulham Betting Stats available for this Saturday, 3pm kick-off.

Newcastle to Win

I can’t see past The Toon here. Their two wins so far this season have come at home. They may be two from four on home soil, but the two defeats have both been by a single goal to Arsenal and Liverpool.

They blew Benfica away in midweek to immediately bring the good feeling back after a disappointing defeat at Brighton. They were perhaps a tad unlucky away at the Amex last time out, and outperformed Brighton 1.45 to 0.91 in terms of xG.

Fulham are winless on their travels and have lost three on the spin. They managed only 0.44xG at home to Arsenal, 0.88xG v Bournemouth, and 0.92xG against Aston Villa across their last three games.

I have some concerns about Fulham; they’re very reliant on individual moments and players really stepping up to the plate - as a unit, they don’t look the strongest, and I struggle to see where they pose enough of a threat to really hurt Newcastle.

Anthony Gordon to have 1+ Shots on Target

Gordon was superb in midweek, his best performance of the season, and really showed how good he can be when he’s on it.

He’s averaged 1.07 SoT per 90 so far this season, despite not being at his best. In his 12 stats for club and country this season, he’s had a shot on target in 10 of them.

Woltemade’s link play is a huge plus for Gordon now that the big German has settled. The neatness of his touches and his ability to bring others into play allow Gordon to run beyond and in-behind, which he loves doing.

Gordon has also had three shots on target across his last three meetings with Fulham.

Nick Woltemade to be Fouled 1+ Times

As mentioned, big Nick has settled in really well at Newcastle. It’s not just his solid goal return so far; it’s the quality of his touches, his footwork, and his ability on the ball that has really impressed those watching.

Many who hadn’t seen him would’ve misprofiled him on account of his 6”6 frame, but Woltemade isn’t a bruiser; he’s a technician. Wonderful touches, link-up play, and an ability to dribble.

So far he has averaged 1.36 fouls drawn per 90 minutes in the Premier League; he’s drawn at least one foul in four of his five appearances, drawing two twice and only blanking in his 66-minute appearance against Arsenal.

When Woltemade drops in, he may see some of Cairney and Berge, who have committed a combined 2.82 fouls per 90.

Tom Cairney to Commit 1+ Fouls

Tagging on to the above, Cairney looks a good pick for a foul. The potential contact with Woltemade is the tip of the iceberg.

Newcastle’s midfield three are foul magnets. Joelinton draws 1.22 per 90, Tonali draws 1.20, and most of all, Bruno Guimaraes draws a whopping 3.19 per 90.

Cairney has spent a lot of his career as a more creative player, which he still has, but his defensive responsibility has been upped in his old age, and it’s not his forte.

Cairney has started three PL games this season, fouling in two of the three and committing three fouls in total across those matches.

With such tough opponents and a fiery atmosphere, 1.40 for a single foul looks solid.

📈 Newcastle v Fulham Form & Tactics

Both sides have won just two games so far this season, and sit side-by-side in the table. Away form has also been an issue for both, with neither managing a win on their travels, which looks ominous for Fulham.

Newcastle have lost two of their four home games, but those defeats came at the hands of Arsenal and Liverpool, with the latter seeing them down to ten men for a full half.

Newcastle games have often been very tight. That 3-2 defeat to Liverpool increases their total significantly. There’s been an average of just 1.75 goals per game in Newcastle matches, the lowest in the league.

Goals have started to flow a little bit more recently, with there being three or more goals scored in four of their last five in all competitions.

📔 Newcastle v Fulham Formation & Team News

Newcastle managed to rest some legs in midweek, with Joelinton used as a second-half sub and Tonali rested entirely.

Anthony Gordon had his best game of the season so far, so he should start again in support of Woltemade.

Harvey Barnes found the net twice off the bench so will be pushing Jacob Murphy for a start on the right-hand side; however, Howe may still opt for Murphy to keep the balance, given that both Gordon and Barnes would rather operate from the left.

It’ll be the usual 4-3-3, though, and the back-line shouldn’t change, with Tino Livramento still missing through injury.

Lewis Hall and Yoane Wissa are the other first-team players missing for the hosts.

Fulham stuck to their 4-2-3-1 system against Arsenal after briefly switching to a back three at Bournemouth. It’ll be back to the four-defender system here, with two holding midfielders. They may drop in at times to match up Newcastle a bit better in the middle of the park, but will look to release young Josh King into the number 10 position when on the ball.

Jorge Cuenca did well as he stepped in to the side in place of Calvin Bassey last time out. You would expect Bassey to return, as he was just jaded from playing in Nigeria four days prior to that Arsenal clash.

Rodrigo Muniz, Samuel Chuckwueze, Anthonee Robinson and Sasa Lukic all missed the match with The Gunners.
