Hearts v Rangers Bet Builder Tips

Hearts host Rangers at Tynecastle on Sunday in the Scottish Premiership in what promises to be a fascinating encounter.

The Gers, of course, arrive in Edinburgh stinging from 1 of the biggest Scottish Cup upsets ever as they were beaten 1-0 at home by Championship outfit Queen’s Park last weekend.

Their hosts, meanwhile, are 1 of the form teams in Scotland’s top-flight and will be hopeful that they can cause an upset as they seek to continue their push for the top 6.

With 26 shots on target this season, there is no current player in the Scottish Premiership who has worked the opposing goalkeeper more than Rangers winger Vaclav Cerny. He averages 1.42 shots on target per 90 and has established himself as 1 of the Ibrox club’s key figures.

Cerny has at least 1 shot on target in each of his last 9 appearances in the Premiership and Europa League as well as in 23 of his last 25 outings in these competitions.

In his only previous start against Hearts, he had 1 shot on target and 3 shots overall.

🔍 Hearts v Rangers Players to Watch

🔵 Mohamed Diomande

Diomande has been drawn into a midfield battle in each of the 2 previous matches against Hearts this season, with the 23-year-old committing at least 2 fouls in each of those matches.

Overall this season, he has 1.34 fouls per 90 in the Premiership, which ranks 5th among Rangers players who have featured for at least 900 minutes in the league. Hearts seem to bring out the combative side of the Ivorian, who has given away at least 1 foul in 9 of his last 10 Premiership or Europa League matches.

🟤 Musa Drammeh

Drammeh might not have been seen for the first 3 months of the season, but the former Sevilla winger has started to make an impression lately, winning a starting place in the attacking midfield sector and scoring in 2 of his last 4 league starts.

The Spaniard has had a shot on target in 4 of his last 5 league starts, including 2 in his previous home start against Motherwell. With a shot on target in each of his last 3 Tynecastle fixtures, he is a big price to test the Rangers keeper in this game.

💻 Hearts v Rangers Form and Tactics

Hearts have finally started to turn their form around after a poor start to the season, with the Jambos picking up 7 wins (including 1 on penalties) in their last 10 matches across all competitions. Having been bottom in December, they are now pushing to finish in the top 6 and are just 1 point behind managerless Motherwell.

A lack of pace in the side continues to be an issue while they have also suffered by being too ponderous in attack. Combined with Lawrence Shankland’s inexplicable loss of form, this left the Edinburgh club on the back foot. They had a tendency to dominate games but were toothless.

The arrival of 27-year-old striker Elton Kabangu has made an immediate impact. The Belgian has 5 goals in his last 4 starts for his new side and has added a dimension they previously lacked.

With a joint-league high 13 goals scored from set pieces, this is another area of strength.

While they have kept 5 clean sheets in 4 Premiership matches this year, Hearts are depleted at the back, with Frankie Kent, Craig Halkett and Stephen Kingsley all out. Lewis Neilson and defensive midfielder Cammy Devlin are additional doubts, so this could be an area of weakness.

Rangers have a strange season. Each time they show a flicker of improvement, it has been snuffed out by a disappointing result. This has never been more evident than last weekend’s 1-0 loss to Queen’s Park in the Scottish Cup, which showcased their inability to break down deep-lying opponents.

Prior to that encounter, they had won 6 of seven, with the exception a late defeat at Manchester United in the Europa League.

On top of this, they have struggled on the road in the league this season, winning only 4 of 12. They have scored fewer than half the goals they have managed at home when playing away (35-16) and have been nearly four times as leaky at the back (4-15). Hamza Igamane is their player to watch. No one has more than his 6 away goals in the Premiership this season, accounting for 37.5% of Rangers’ total. He also averages 4.57 shots per 90 this season – the highest figure of any player in the league.
