Juventus will be looking to end a poor year on and off the field with a win against struggling Cagliari tonight in their final fixture of 2021. Not only were they unable to retain the title last season, a feat they had achieved nine times previous, but they now sit seventh in the league, twelve points a drift of first place Inter, with nothing less than a win to keep them within fighting distance of the top four. Juventus’ year has similarly been plagued by disruption off the pitch, with the replacement of club legend Andrea Pirlo for Massimiliano Allegri as manager in May and the on-going investigations into the club’s transfer affairs by the public prosecutor’s office in Turin.
Despite this, Juventus have begun to find a rich vein of form, winning four of their last five outings in the league, stumbling only to newly promoted Venezia in a game in which they dominated possession with 61% of the ball and had more shots. In contrast to this Cagliari are looking for their first win since October, a run of form that has spanned ten league games, five of which they were unable to find the net. This poor scoring form appears to be the story of Cagliari’s season as Walter Mazzarri’s men are one of only three sides in the league who have scored at under a goal a game this season, netting 17 from their 18 matches, second only to Salernitana. If Cagliari are looking to find a result tonight they will need to performer at a significantly higher standard against the old lady of Italian football. I have put together my three favourite bet builder tips and predictions for the game in Turin tonight alongside my Cheat Sheet to assist you with your own bet builder selections. Good Luck!
Juventus v Cagliari Bet Builder Tips & Predictions
Juventus to win
The previous head to head meetings between these two sides paints a damming picture for the visitors. Juventus have won nine of their last ten meetings securing three points in nine consecutive games. Despite this not being the dominant Juventus side of old, the team was still able to secure victory both at home and away against tonight’s opponent in a substandard 20/21 campaign. This game is unlikely to be high scoring with Juventus, like Cagliari, struggling to find form in the final third. Juventus are the lowest scoring team in the top half of the table this year, scoring only 25 goals this season, compared to the likes of league leaders Inter who have scored 48. This coupled with Cagliari’s terrible form in front of goal, suggests neither team has covered themselves in glory this season with respect to goals. However, Álvaro Morata has begun to find some form netting his fifth goal of the campaign against Bologna, this coupled with Juventus’ other elite players, from defence to attack, all of who have the potential to score, should mean the old lady is too strong for the Sardinians tonight. Juventus to win at 1.17 on Paddy Power.
Both teams to score – No
As previously stated, Cagliari has been one of the worst teams in front of goal this year. This coupled with their previous performances against Juventus in which they have failed to score in eight of their last ten attempts against the Turin based side, suggests Mazzari’s side will be hard pressed to score tonight. Cagliari have been over reliant on the goals of Pedro and Pavoletti this season, which is a specific concern, as in their previous 5 games both Pedro and Pavoletti have scored only once each, which actually accounts for the only goals scored by the whole side during that period in the league. If Cagliari are to score for only the third time in ten attempts against a Juventus side that has been robust defensively in recent games, conceding only twice in their last five league fixtures, their forwards will need a serious uptake in form. As a result, both teams to score? No seems well priced at 1.45 on Paddy Power.
Over 40 Booking points
The Cheat Sheet does a lot of the talking for this selection. You can see statistically, Cagliari produce a lot of cards, with five players receiving over three cards this season compared to only two for Juventus. Similarly, referee Federico Dionisis has a tendency to produce games with high card counts averaging 4.25 yellows per game and 0.5 reds. The cheat sheet also suggests a large amount of the cards produced between these two teams come from the forward areas with João Pedro committing an average of 2.39 fouls per game and his strike partner Pavoletti producing the highest on the Cagliari side at 2.46. Similarly, despite averaging a lower 2.13 fouls per game, Álvaro Morata has received three yellow cards of his own this season. With the game likely to be low scoring, I expect both sets of attack to become more frustrated as the game progresses and the majority of yellows to come from this area. This coupled with the referee’s reputation and the team’s tendencies to foul, suggests over 40 booking points at 1.83 odds on Paddy Power looks a good shout for any bet builder on tonight’s game.
Álvaro Morata 2+ shots on target
I have already mentioned Álvaro Morata’s recent uptake in form, and equally, the Spanish international will have to produce the bulk of Juventus’ attacking threat tonight, with Dybala unlikely to start. The man may seem to baffle a lot of viewers with his big money signings to the elites of Europe every couple of years, however despite, Morata has significant scoring prowess, netting 23 goals for his country in 50 appearances and scoring 31 goals to date in the Serie A.
His Cheat Sheet stats are extremely promising as well, producing the most shots on target for his team this season at 1.26 per game. Morata has had an extremely poor conversion rate this season at only 16% however, as the cheat sheet suggests, a high percentage of the shots he does take are on target. As a result, 2 or more shots on target at 1.53 on Paddy Power seems a safer option than Morata to score.
