Lazio host an AC Milan side in Rome this Friday evening. Lazio have been below par in Serie A this season. Maurizio Sari’s side are down as low as 8th position after a 2-1 defeat to Fiorentina last week. They are playing this fixture on a Friday to give them the best possible preparation for a crucial Champions League tie v Bayern Munich on Tuesday. Perhaps they will have eyes on that fixture but domestically they need to start improving otherwise they won’t qualify for any European competition.
AC Milan look fairly landlocked in third place. The title is too far beyond them now but they should have enough of a cushion to comfortably qualify for the Champions League again. The main focus for Milan might now be on the Europa League, in which they have drawn Slavia Prague in the next round. Milan have a strong 7-3-3 away record in Serie A and have been in rich goalscoring form, so it’s no surprise to see them kick off as the favourites.

🎯 Shooting stats: Look at some experienced individuals
Lazio have struggled for goals at times this season so it’s no surprise to see none of their players are averaging over one shot on target per game. Ciro Immobile should be reliable enough to have two shots or more but is as short as 1.17. The best value might be with Luis Alberto who is priced more generously at 1.36 in the same market. He is an experienced player who will get himself in some good positions.
On the AC Milan side, Olivier Giroud looks like excellent bet builder material just to have two shots or more at 1.25. This is well within his reach considering his seasonal average of 2.42. Giroud is quite an accurate shooter so could be looked at in that market as well. Leading the line for AC Milan will generally lead to any striker getting opportunities, he’s also a threat in the air which can yield some cheap and easy shot attempts.
Predictions:
⚽ Luis Alberto to have 2+ shots @ 1.36
⚽ Olivier Giroud to have 2+ shots @ 1.25
🛑 Fouls stats: Physical strikers to cause issues
Alessio Romagnoli is a generously priced 1.29 to commit one or more fouls. He has a high average minute count on the field and will likely last the full match to increase the chances of this part of the bet builder landing. Romagnoli averages 1.18 fouls per 90 minutes and will be up against Olivier Giroud and perhaps Christian Pulisic who will be tough to handle physically. It’s going to be a tough ask for him to deliver a clean game.
On the Milan side, Malick Thiaw stands out at 1.30 to commit at least one foul. Considering his fouls average of 1.46 per game the presumption was that he’d be shorter odds and would only be backable to commit two fouls or more. Thiaw is going to be up against the physical beast of Ciro Immobile who draws close to a couple of fouls per 90. Thiaw might get caught out and looks set to give away at least one cheap free kick. This could be the best value bet builder addition of the entire match.
Predictions:
⚽ Alessio Romagnoli to commit 1+ fouls @ 1.29
⚽ Malick Thiaw to commit 1+ fouls @ 1.30
🟨 Cards stats: Two hot-headed teams on show
Lazio rank second for most cards obtained in Serie A this season with 64 yellow and two reds. AC Milan have obtained the most red cards of any team in the division so it makes sense to look into the card market here.
The referee is Marco Di Bello which might be why the main card line is set at just 4.5. Di Bello is only averaging 3.56 cards per game in Serie A this season but his career average in the division is 4.55. He is coming off a rare cardless game in Juventus v Hellas Verona, so might be more twitchy here. He issued a red card recently when taking charge of Lazio’s trip to Cagliari.
There are enough hot heads on show for over 3.5 cards to land at 1.29, and for those feeling more adventurous you could look at a higher cards line.
Predictions:
⚽ Over 4.5 cards @ 1.29
