⚔️ Lazio v Juventus Head-to-Head
Lazio and Juventus have become familiar foes over the last month, with this set to be the third meeting between the teams over this brief period.
The Biancocelesti picked up the victory in the first of this mini-series of games thanks to a slender 1-0 success in the Italian capital in a Serie A fixture.
Lazio were deserving winners in that encounter. They mustered 16 shots but these were typically low-quality efforts and only hit the target with four of these, including three from defenders. Juventus’ volume of chances were lower but they were better. Chiesa had two of their three shots at goal.
The Italy international found the target three days later when the sides met again in the aforementioned Coppa Italia encounter. The former Fiorentina star is 3.6 on Paddy Power to score again in this game. Lazio again had more of the ball and more shots, but they failed to have a shot on target with any of their 11 efforts.
All three games this season between these sides have been won by the home club, with Lazio 2.88 to win with Paddy Power. The Romans have also had at least seven corners in these encounters, which is a trend that is 3 to continue.
📊 Lazio Form and Stats
Lazio have been unable to match their stellar form of last season when they finished second in Serie A with 74 points, yet Maurizio Sarri’s men still have an outside chance of reaching the Champions League via a fifth-placed finish in Serie A.
Lately, the form of Maurizio Sarri’s side has been mixed. There have been some impressive highs, including a win over Bayern Munich in the Stadio Olimpico in the Champions League. Equally, there have been some significant setbacks, including losses against Bologna and Roma, which have hindered their European chances.
Indeed, the trend from Lazio is to beat the teams below them in the league but lose to those higher than them. Their victory over Juve in March bucks this trend.
Similarly, they have struggled to score against Italy’s better teams. They have netted only four goals in their last 12 games across all competitions against clubs presently in Serie A’s top eight.
Lazio have managed at least 10 shots in their last seven Serie A games but have never hit the target with more than 35.3% of efforts in a match. They have also had at least six corners in five of their last six league outings.
📊 Juventus Form and Stats
Juventus might be on course to finish third in Serie A this season, but the campaign has been a bitterly disappointing one for the Turin side. Indeed, they have been so far off the pace of champions Inter that head coach Massimiliano Allegri is likely to be sacked at the end of the season.
The Bianconeri have been particularly poor in recent weeks. They have won only three of their last 12 across all competitions while their last away victory was way back in January, when they overcame Lecce 3-0 on the road.
One of Allegri’s chief problems is that his game lacks invention and excitement. Prior to Friday’s 2-2 draw with Cagliari, their four previous Serie A matches yielded just two goals – one for and one against.
Juve’s low-scoring nature is reflected in their statistics. Across their last six games in all competitions, they have never had more than three shots on target, albeit they have never given up more than two. It is a mixture that makes for drab fixtures.
Indeed, during this six-game burst, the weekend’s trip to Sardinia was the first time in which both teams had scored.
Offensively, they are reliant on Vlahovic and Chiesa, who have 17 and eight goals respectively in all competitions this season.
💰 Lazio v Juventus Best Bets
Juventus probably did enough in the first leg to book their passage through to the next round given their defensive solidarity and the difficulty that Lazio have in scoring against Italy’s best clubs.
The home side will probably dominate this game on the night, though, and that makes backing them to have over 6.5 corners at 2.75 a particularly appetising offer.
Lazio to have more corners than Juve at 1.44 on bet365 also looks like superb value given they are the team that is likely to be making much of the running in this clash.
