⚪ Sam Nombe to Win the Golden Boot (MK Dons)

Sam Nombe to Win the Golden Boot

MK Dons will be targeting the play-offs, and they’ve picked up Sam Nombe from Rotherham.

The pacey 27-year-old scored 13 league goals as the Millers were relegated from the third tier last season.

He’s got bags of League One experience, is likely to get on penalty-taking duties, and came joint-6th in the scoring charts in League One in 2022/23 for Exeter City, before earning a move to the Championship.

43 goals in 153 appearances at the level is really good course form to take into this season, having never played for a top side in League One, of which MK may well turn out to be.

His availability has improved significantly in recent years as well; if he starts 40+ games, he should be right in the mix for top goalscorer.

🟤 Jake Beesley to Win the Golden Boot (Bradford)

Jake Beesley to Win the Golden Boot

Beesley has been threatening to have a breakthrough season for a while.

He originally jumped from League Two to the Championship based on that promise, moving from Rochdale to Blackpool.

Now in his peak, he should be ready to seriously challenge for the golden boot.

13 league goals for 17th-placed Burton has earned him a summer move to Bradford, who finished 4th and will be eyeing another promotion tilt.

Beesley should be on penalties for the Bantams this season; he scored 3/3 for Burton in 25/26.

Beesley had 2.30 shots per 90 for a relegation-battling side last term, scoring 12.9% of them; Bradford's leader in shots per 90 was Stephen Humphrys at 3.50.

As the Bantams' chief threat, Beesley should have 20 goals as a realistic target, especially if he sustains that conversion rate, which'd put him at the top end of the scoring charts at a big price.

🟠 Jerry Yates to Win the Golden Boot (Luton)

Jerry Yates to Win the Golden Boot

Yates is a proven bagsman in League One and the Championship, a difficult 25/26 campaign hints at why he’s out at 33s, but he’s the most capable striker on Luton’s books, who are 3rd-favourites for the league title.

The 29-year-old came 3rd, with 20 goals, in this market in 2020/21, before stepping up to the Championship impressively, over four straight seasons in the second tier he netted 8, 14, 8 and 10 league goal tallies, without ever playing for an upwardly mobile side.

Last season’s haul of six league goals across League One and a loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship was a blip, though four goals for Wednesday in their predicament actually had him as their joint-top scorer anyway.

Yates could end up on penalties for Luton, if he establishes himself as their starting striker it'll make a mockery of this price. He's Jack Wilshere's safest bet for a dependable goalscorer at this level.

🔴 Aaron Connolly to Win the Golden Boot (Leyton Orient)

Aaron Connolly to Win the Golden Boot

Last season’s top goalscorer Dominic Ballard led the market at painfully short odds, before being signed by Championship Bristol City. Having made it back-to-back seasons where a Leyton Orient striker, with Richie Wellens as manager throughout, has won the League One golden boot.

Ballard is 21, runs like his didn't go unnoticed.

Aaron Connolly has a case to take penalties now Ballard has gone, has serious pedigree when fit, having shown glimpses of a Premier League-level striker across his career, and is out at a juicy 50/1.

Tottenham loanee Yusuf Akhamrich is worth a small E/W bet at 150/1 after he tore it up at Bristol Rovers last season.

Connolly scored eight goals, despite only starting 20 in the third tier last season, if you could guarantee him an injury-free season, I’d have him around 10/1, maybe even shorter. 50s is too big to ignore.

🟤 Adam Phillips to Win the Golden Boot (Bradford)
  • League One

Adam Phillips to Win the Golden Boot

Adam Phillips was one of the first prices I looked for in this market; he’s such a natural goalscorer and swapping Barnsley for Bradford should only increase the chances he has to find the net.

He’s 125/1 because he’s an attacking midfielder, but that’s not to say he won’t be one of Bradford’s biggest attacking threats.

His last four seasons in League One have seen him score nine, 11, nine and then nine goals again. Is there a season where he explodes beyond those numbers? At 125/1, I’m more than happy to say there is.

He could end up on penalties; he’s a threat from range and times his arrival into the box really well.

With Leicester and Sheffield Wednesday’s off-pitch turbulence, the League One promotion race could really open up, and Bradford are well positioned to take advantage having invested shrewdly this summer.

This is a good E/W bet to cheer on over the course of the season with a smaller stake.
