Liverpool have begun the season under new manager Arne Slot superbly. They’ve won 13 of his 15 games including three out of three in the Champions League, to sit two points clear at the top of the Premier League and second in Europe, on course to finish in the top 8 and automatically qualify for the knockout round.
Ex-Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso led Bayer Leverkusen to the Bundesliga title last season winning 28 of 34 games and conceding just 24 goals.
⭐ Liverpool v Leverkusen Best Bets
It is difficult to oppose Liverpool given their record this season. At the beginning of the 2024/25 season there were questions about the strength of the opposition they were beating but it now impressively reads victories over Chelsea, Man Utd (A), Leipzig (A), Milan (A), and Brighton (twice).
Leverkusen, meanwhile, haven’t quite carried on where they left off from last season. They’ve already dropped points in five games, including a defeat, whilst conceding 15 goals – already over 60% of their entire total from last season.
It’s just three clean sheets in 13 against Bundesliga and Champions League opposition and they’ve only won two of the last seven games. Back Liverpool to make it 14 victories out of 16.

🔍 Liverpool v Leverkusen Players to Watch
🔴 Mo Salah
Mohamed Salah seems reinvigorated under new manager Arne Slot. In just 13 starts, he’s registered 8 goals and 7 assists already. It’s an impressive list of opposition with goals against Arsenal, Chelsea, Brighton, and Man Utd, whilst assisting against Chelsea, RB Leipzig and Man Utd.
At Anfield he’s scored or assisted in every game but one. His underlying numbers are healthy averaging over 3 shots and almost 2 key passes per 90 minutes.
Mohamed Salah is averaging the most shots per game for Liverpool – 50% more than the next most in Diogo Jota – with 3.0 per game in the Premier League. Salah has been consistent in his prolific shooting ever since he arrived at Anfield in 2017, averaging over 3.0 per game every season.
Bayer Leverkusen are conceding on average 15.0 shots per game away from home in the Bundesliga. Away to Bayern Munich, they conceded 18 with right-forward Michael Olise hitting three.
🔴 Curtis Jones
Curtis Jones is another man whose game has seemingly gone to another level under Arne Slot. He put in a man-of-the-match performance at home to Chelsea and was crucial in the victory over Brighton at the weekend after coming off the bench to set up Salah’s winner.
He appears to getting forward a lot more and as a result getting off shots. He’s had nine shots in his five starts, at an average of 2.0 per game. At home, this increases to 3.0 per game with extra license to get into the opposition box.

💻 Liverpool v Leverkusen Form and Tactics
Bayer Leverkusen’s performances away from home are a concern. They are conceding 15 shots per game in the Bundesliga and away to Brest and Feyenoord in the Champions League, conceded double figures. Their match away to elite opposition in Bayern was alarming. They managed just three shots whilst conceding 18. Liverpool are only conceding 9.8 shots per game in the Premier League and as a result, have the best expected goals against.
Liverpool remain without Alisson in goal and Diogo Jota upfront. However, Caoimhin Kelleher has stepped in as goalkeeper superbly delivering a post-shot expected goal figure of +1.1 so far on top of his +1.3 from last season, whilst Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo have scored four goals between them. Leverkusen came to Anfield without any significant absentees.
