Manchester United welcome Bournemouth with Ruben Amorim hoping his side can turn around their home form having failed to win their last two matches at home against Everton and West Ham.

Bournemouth will also be hoping for a change in fortune having only won one of their seven away matches in the Premier League this term. They also enter this clash winless across their last five games in the top-flight.

📈 Man United v Bournemouth Form & Tactics

Manchester United responded well after their 1-1 draw with West Ham at Old Trafford with a 4-1 win over winless Wolves on the road. United were expected to win the game, but it will provide a bit of confidence ahead of what looks like a tricky period ahead of the new year.

United travel to Villa after this game before welcoming Newcastle, so Ruben Amorim must look to collect maximum points here if he wants to avoid another trial by the fans, where they question his credentials as Manchester United manager - which seems to happen every time United lose, sometimes even if they win.

United’s form at Old Trafford has generally been better than it was last season, though recent results at home against West Ham and Everton will bring back the nerves and memories of last season, where United had to grind out results. I do think they’re on the right track and have a decent chance of winning here with how poor Bournemouth have been on the road this term.

Andoni Iraola is an excellent manager, but he may be learning a bit about the necessity to manage load and minutes in a league as intense as the Premier League. Bournemouth have failed to win in any of their last five matches in the Premier League, losing three of those games, and this poor form can be attributed to fatigue.

Bournemouth aren’t in any European competition, yet still look like one of the most fatigued sides in the Premier League over recent weeks. Iraola doesn’t rotate his squad that much, so he’s asking quite a lot physically of the same crop of players, which is starting to have an impact on the effectiveness of Bournemouth’s press.

📔 Man United v Bournemouth Formation & Team News

Manchester United will continue to line up in a 3-4-3 shape with Ruben Amorim insistent on this shape and structure as the best way forward for the Red Devils. It has looked a bit better this season, especially in the final third - but I would argue that this is down to the quality of the individuals that United have signed, rather than the benefits of Amorim’s tactical system.

I still think United are vulnerable in the middle of the park. There is so much space there when Fernandes ventures forward, and sides could definitely exploit that if they are willing to risk an extra player to sit near Casemiro, who is the only defensively minded player other than the back three in this system.

Bournemouth will line up in a 4-2-3-1 shape and look to press from the front. As their confidence is low, and they’ve been conceding floods of goals on the road, I don’t think Bournemouth’s press will be as intense as it could be here, with Iraola likely to try and target the press in specific periods of the game, to aid Bournemouth’s issues with fitness and fatigue.

The role of Alex Jimenez is worth keeping an eye on here if he starts. Iraola played him on the wing against Chelsea last time out, and he had two shots. He’s usually a full back, but may be priced generously for shots or shots on target if he starts a bit higher up the pitch again.

📊 Man United v Bournemouth Key Stats

Manchester United have failed to win their last two matches at Old Trafford (v West Ham and Everton).

Only Burnley (23) have conceded more goals on the road than Bournemouth (19) in the Premier League this season.

Bournemouth have won on both of their last two trips to Old Trafford, winning 3-0 in both games.

Mason Mount has scored two goals across his last three Premier League appearances.
