Man United were fortunate to come away with a point against West Ham last time out, as Benjamin Sesko equalised in the 96th minute at the London Stadium. It wasn’t the best performance from Carrick’s men, but they were at least able to salvage a draw, and extend their unbeaten run under the new manager. 

The Red Devils might be in a rich vein of form, but they have only kept two clean sheets in their last nine matches across all competitions, and both of those were at Old Trafford. BTTS has landed in each of their last 11 away matches across all competitions, highlighting how chances tend to be available at both ends of the field. 

Everton haven’t quite been as expansive, averaging just 2.27 goals per game in the Premier League this season, but they do tend to open up a bit more when they play at home.

The Toffees were somehow still able to come away with the three points in the reverse fixture, in what was a smash and grab at Old Trafford. The hosts recorded 25 shots worth 1.71xG, but were unable to find the back of the net, while Everton were much more efficient in front of goal. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall accounted for one of Everton’s three shots in that game, and he scored a wonderful goal from outside the box. 

The Toffees have looked much more dangerous in the final third since Dewsbury-Hall’s return. Operating in an advanced midfield spot, the former Chelsea man has hit 2+ shots in three of his last four league matches when playing over 45 minutes, including three shots in Everton's home win against Nottingham Forest. He will be looking forward to this matchup against Man United.

Harry Maguire is averaging 0.8 fouls drawn per 90 this season across all competitions, which is nothing to write home about, but he has displayed a noticeable uptick in recent games. Maguire had started just one game since the start of November before Carrick took over, but the centre back has been given a new lease of life under the new manager. 

Maguire has started each of the last five matches, and has landed this selection in all of those, drawing a total of seven infringements. He has an excellent matchup this weekend to keep that streak going, as he will have to deal with either Thierno Barry or Beto.

The former is averaging 1.74 fouls per 90 across all competitions this season, and the latter is at 2.34 fouls per 90. They are both very physical players, and should find duels against Maguire here.

It was one-way traffic for the majority of the game when these sides last met in November, but Man United still had their fair share of defensive work to get through, as they accrued 12 fouls, in addition to 14 tackles. Luke Shaw was kept especially busy, with one foul and four tackles to his name, highlighting his defensive involvement against Iliman Ndiaye on the flank. 

Shaw is averaging 1.35 fouls per 90 across all competitions, and has cleared this line in six of his last 10 starts. In fact, the Englishman has registered at least one foul in each of his last 17 matches across all competitions, during which he has also been booked four times. Shaw is a very physical defender, and often looks to engage in duels by getting tight to his man. He should be kept busy again here by Ndiaye, who likes having the ball at his feet, and often looks to beat his marker.

James Garner provided the assist for Dewsbury-Hall at Old Trafford last time out, and will want to make another big impact against his former club. Garner has been a key player for Everton this season, and has started all 26 Premier League matches. He has accumulated the most shots in the Everton squad, and has seen even more attacking involvement since Idrissa Gueye returned from AFCON. 

The Senegalese international is more defensive-minded in the pair, allowing Garner to pick up some promising positions. The Englishman registered three shots against Bournemouth last time out, with one of those hitting the target, while Garner also landed this selection against Fulham. He had a free-kick saved by Bernd Leno in that match. 

Although he didn’t register a shot in the reverse fixture, Everton should be much more progressive in front of a home support, especially if they can keep 11 men on the field.

Bruno Fernandes is another player who has benefitted from the managerial change, as he has been able to feature in an advanced midfield spot, which suits him better. The Portuguese international has one goal and four assists under his belt in the last five matches alone, landing this bet against the likes of Man City and Arsenal. 

Fernandes now has six goals and 12 assists this season from 23 appearances. He has hit double-figures for goals in each of his last five seasons at Man United, which shows that there is still room for improvement. However, Bruno seems determined to increase his goalscoring tally - he racked up eight shots in his last home outing against Tottenham, and was able to find the back of the net in the 81st minute.

Fernandes tends to play with more confidence in front of a home crowd, and he will hope to make a difference this weekend.

Results at home haven’t been ideal for David Moyes in recent weeks, but his side have remained a difficult team to contain. Everton are drawing an average of 2.4 yellow cards per 90 at home this season, compared to just 1.21 on their travels. The Toffees tend to see a lot more of the ball when they play on Merseyside, and they adopt a more front-footed approach. 

Man United’s data is less appealing, averaging 1.53 cards per game across all competitions this season, but they were shown two cards in the reverse fixture at home, despite Idrissa Gueye’s being sent off after just 13 minutes.
