📈 Napoli v Como Form & Tactics
Napoli have struggled to cope with heavy fixture congestion, with the effects stretching well beyond their Champions League disappointment, which saw them exit in the league phase. Those results render this clash even more critical for Napoli, particularly given Inter’s almost unassailable lead at Serie A’s summit.
The hosts have played 10 matches since the turn of the year, but enter this clash having recorded back-to-back wins for the first time in that stretch. Neither of those wins was particularly convincing, especially their most recent meeting with Genoa, in which they relied on a 95th-minute penalty to claim a 3-2 victory.
Still, this represents a notable upturn in form, with Conté’s men having managed just a single victory in their nine prior matches.
Como’s recent outings have featured tough clashes against Italy’s elite, with each game a pinnacle of entertainment.
Despite dominating, Como kicked off this exciting run with a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Milan, but that didn’t stop them from bouncing back with a thumping 3-0 against Lazio in Rome. Somehow, they one-upped that just 5 days later as they ripped Torino to shreds for the second time this season, recording a 6-0 victory. Como then put out a mature display to see off Fiorentina in the Coppa Italia, before being held to a 0-0 stalemate against Atalanta last time out, in what was probably the most exhilarating match of them all.
With La Dea reduced to 10 men in the 8th minute, the chances came thick and fast for Como, who generated a remarkable 5.05xG from their 28 shots, which included 12 big chances. Como were almost spared when awarded a 98th-minute penalty to seal it, only for Nico Paz to squander the opportunity. Despite having stood out as arguably Serie A’s best player, the Argentine starlet has missed each of his three penalties this season.
