Having just beaten Poland 3-1 courtesy of goals from Gernot Trauner, Christoph Baumgartner and Marko Arnautovic, Austria are playing with confidence. The latter was left out of Austria’s first game against France, but was a standout performer in matchday two, so could well get the nod to start once more.
Jeremie Frimpong found himself in a similar situation, omitted from the starting XI in matchday one for the Netherlands. Given Austria’s high pressing style, the Leverkusen winger could be the perfect man to exploit spaces in behind the defence, with his electric pace.
Netherlands v Austria Best Bets
➡️ Both teams to score @ 1.73 with Paddy Power
➡️ Austria to commit 12+ fouls @ 1.83 with Paddy Power
Despite blanking against France, Austria were enterprising in their approach and created two clear-cut chances. Against Poland, they were equally as impressive going forward, scoring three goals and creating plenty of chances. That being said, their high pressing game plan leaves them vulnerable defensively, which Netherlands can certainly capitalise on. Expecting an end-to-end matchup, both teams to score at 1.73 is enticing.
Austria made 15 fouls against Poland, and 18 fouls against France. Ralf Rangnick encourages his men to be aggressive off the ball, and that style should persist against the Dutch. Austria made 12 or more fouls in each of their five friendlies building up to the Euros, against Germany, Slovakia, Turkey, Serbia and Switzerland. Netherlands should see a larger portion of the ball on Tuesday, so Austria 12+ Fouls at 1.83 looks a cracking price.

📊 Netherlands Form and Stats
Virgil van Dijk was critical of the refereeing performance against France, after Xavi Simons had a late goal ruled out for offside. Despite that event, the Dutch would otherwise be satisfied with the point as Ronald Koeman set his side up in a pragmatic shape. France had the lion’s share of the ball and fashioned the better chances. 15 attempts amounted to 1.43 xGA, forcing Bart Verbruggen into three saves.
Cody Gakpo has been the standout performer for the Oranje so far, as the only Dutch attacker to have featured in every available minute. Contrastingly, Memphis Depay has once again garnered criticism for his lacklustre performances and Wout Weghorst might be in line for a start.
📊 Austria Form and Stats
After defeat at the hands of France in matchday one, Austria bounced back in Berlin with a 3-1 win against Poland. Baumgartner was fantastic in between the lines, and capped off his performance with a goal in the 66th minute. The RB Leipzig man would be relieved with that, having failed to convert two big chances against France as Austria were defeated 1-0.
Ralf Rangnick surprisingly opted to change his centre back pairing, as Kevin Danso and Max Wöber made way for Philip Leinhart and Gernot Trauner. That change paid dividends, as Feyenoord captain Trauner headed home to give Austria the lead within 10 minutes, following an attempted long throw. The centre back was unable to see out the game, however, subbed with an injury at the hour mark. Danso was his replacement, and he could be set to return to the starting XI against Netherlands.
⚔️ Netherlands v Austria Head-to-Head
Denzel Dumfries will have fond memories of the last time he faced Austria. The full back won the Oranje an early penalty which was calmly converted by Memphis Depay, before scoring the second and final goal of the game to seal the victory. That match came in Euro 2020, as Netherlands and Austria were pitted against each other in Group C. Both sides advanced to the knockout stages as the top two.
A lot has changed for both nations since then, with Frank de Boer and Franco Foda no longer in charge.
