🟠 Netherlands can be a threat at the World Cup next year
Netherlands have started their qualifying campaign really strongly with two wins from their two matches and 10 goals scored across these games. You would expect no less from the highest ranked side in a group that also contains Lithuania, Malta and Finland as well as the two sides clashing here.
Netherlands are still headed up by Ronald Koeman, i’m not the biggest fan of the former Southampton and Everton manager but he has done a decent job with his national side. Netherlands battled to the semi finals of the most recent European Championships and even took the lead in that game through Xavi Simons.
There is no reason why this Netherlands side could be a real force at the World Cup next summer. They’ve got a solid spine with Van Dijk, Gravenberch and Gakpo who also all happen to be at Liverpool with the rest of the side made up of established talent from across Europe’s top five leagues.
⚪ Poland looking to bounce back
Poland are a nation that have been relying on Robert Lewandowski on the international stage for a long time now, but with the veteran striker aging, Poland must now look to the young crop of players they have coming through and will really fancy their chances of qualifying from this group.
Poland have won two of their three games as part of World Cup qualification so far with the defeat coming on the road against Finland. They dominated that game and were unfortunate not to at least get a draw out of their trip to Helsinki, but they will be confident in picking up points against the likes of Lithuania and Malta.
When it comes to individual players, I'm a big fan of Nicola Zalewski who moved to Atalanta this summer. Poland often play with wingbacks which means Zalewski pretty much always has a starting role with Matty Cash operating down the opposite flank.
📊 Netherlands v Poland H2H
These sides faced off in the group stages of the most recent European Championships with Netherlands coming from behind to run out 2-1 winners.
