It’s a big game at the Kassam Stadium on Saturday afternoon with plenty at stake for both sides, Oxford will be looking for a win to put some daylight between them and the relegation zone, while a three points for Preston would strengthen their play-off and automatic promotion push.

📈 Oxford v Preston Form & Stats

After narrowly avoiding relegation on the final day of last season, it’s been a terrific campaign for Preston, they’ve shown a dogged determination to grind out results and currently find themselves occupying a play-off spot. It’s been a good run of form for Preston, winning four, drawing four, and losing one of their last nine games.

The underlying data does suggest Preston have been overperforming fairly significantly, opposition teams have perhaps been a little wasteful in the final third, with Preston conceding 6.5 goals less than expected. The xG table currently has them sitting in 14th place.

After a very credible campaign last season where Oxford finished in 17th place, it’s been a tough start to this season, and it looks touch and go whether they’ll be able to avoid the drop. Oxford currently sit in 21st place, just two points ahead of Portsmouth, who also have a game in hand.

Winning has been an issue for the hosts, managing just four of them all season. Recent form doesn’t paint a better picture, with them picking up just one win from their last eight games.

There is some cause for optimism. Oxford have underperformed some of their underlying metrics; the xG table currently has them in 18th place, with 3.6 more xPTS than they have at present. On paper at least, they are producing performances good enough to steer clear of relegation.
