Ross Smith was given a free pass to the quarter-finals of the World Matchplay after Cameron Menzies had to withdraw from their Round of 16 clash due to illness.

Smith had already hit 3+ 180s in three legs of that game and is one of the most consistent maximum hitters in the sport at the moment.

Smith hit 7+ 180s in 16 legs of darts against Kevin Doets in the opening round and should be able to cover the slightly higher line here given that this is now a longer format game.

James Wade saw off Ryan Searle with relative ease in the last round.

He stayed ahead of Heavy Metal for the majority of the contest and eventually managed to pull away to come out an 11-8 winner with a 99.85 average.

It was a typical James Wade performance with the Machine also coming out with 50% on his doubles.

This format clearly suits Wade; he reached the final of the World Matchplay last year and can make any game a real scrap.

He’ll be optimistic of his chances of keeping within touching distance of Gian van Veen, who has had to scrap to get to this point so far, seeing off Wessel Nijman in the last round.

These two actually met at this exact stage of the World Matchplay last year, with Wade coming away as a 16-13 winner on that occasion.
