A score or assist bet wins if your player scores or sets up a goal for a teammate. It's a market that suits creative players who don't shoot much, like a winger who takes the corners. 

The price is usually shorter than anytime goalscorer for the same player, since there are two ways for the bet to land.

How Our Tipsters Pick a Goalscorer

We start with minutes. A striker who plays 90 minutes has a better chance of getting more chances than one who comes off on the hour, so we check recent starts and time played before anything else.

Then we look at shot volume over goals. Goals come in runs, but a player taking three or four shots a game is getting regular attempts at goal. It's the same data behind our shots on target tips. We also look at xG to see the quality of those chances.

The opponent comes next. We look at how many shots a defence gives up as well as how many goals it's conceded.

Penalties and set pieces are a bonus. A player on pens has an extra route to goal, and a centre-back who attacks every corner can be a decent price for a header.

Last, the odds. The favourite is the shortest price for a reason, so we look further down the list for a player whose numbers suggest a better chance of scoring than his odds imply. If he's overpriced, that's usually where the value is.

Anytime Goalscorer

Anytime goalscorer wins if your player scores at any point in the match. Normal time and stoppage time count, and so do penalties.

First Goalscorer

First goalscorer wins only if your player scores the opening goal. At most bookmakers, an own goal doesn't count as the first goal, and the bet moves to the next scorer.

Last Goalscorer

Last goalscorer wins if your player scores the final goal of the match. A substitute can still score last, so it's a market where an impact sub can be a decent price.

Score or Assist

Score or assist wins if your player scores or sets up a goal. Each bookmaker decides what counts as an assist, and the definition is in its rules.

2+ Goals and Hat-trick

Your player needs to score at least twice, or three times for a hat-trick. The odds are much bigger, since even the best strikers score two in a game far less often than one.

Header and Outside the Box

These markets need the goal scored a certain way: with the head, or with a shot from outside the penalty area. Headers suit tall centre-backs at set pieces, and outside the box suits midfielders who shoot from distance.
