🟠 Dundee United Suffer Late Heartbreak
Dundee United will need to lift themselves up off the canvas after Hearts hit a 94th-minute winner to triumph 3-2 at Tannadice on Sunday. United were 2-1 in front at half-time before suffering a second-half collapse. However, the underlying data suggests that it was no more than Hearts deserved, with the capital club enjoying 73% possession and winning the xG battle 1.84 to 0.69.
It was a similar story in Vienna last week, with Rapid dominating possession (62%) and racking up 21 shots to Dundee United’s seven. Expect to see United boss Goodwin opt for another safety-first approach in this week’s return match.
⚪ Strong Start From Rapid
Rapid Vienna have made a strong start to the season, winning five of their six matches across all competitions, with the only blot on their copy book last week’s 2-2 draw with Dundee United.
The Green-Whites’ 2-1 victory away at Sturm Graz on Sunday means that they are just one of three teams to have won each of their opening two matches of the new Austrian Bundesliga season.
While Rapid Vienna will arrive in Scotland on an upward curve, a return of just one clean sheet from their last four matches may be a cause for concern for manager Peter Stoger.
📊 Dundee United v Rapid Vienna H2H
Last week’s 2-2 draw at the Allianz Stadion was the first-ever competitive meeting between Dundee United and Rapid Vienna. Prior to that, the pair did cross paths in a friendly fixture back in 2012, with Rapid Vienna running out 3-0 winners.
