Mancini has always been a bit of a maniac in Roma’s back three, and that hasn’t changed this season with Mancini committing a foul in each of his last five Serie A appearances, committing 2+ fouls in three of these games and 3+ fouls in each of his last two matches.

Mancini had a crazy game against Atalanta the last time these sides met, racking up nine foul involvements - which is ridiculously high for a centre back. He was fouled four times, and committed five fouls himself as Roma fell to a 1-0 defeat against Atalanta. He was also shown a yellow card in the game and accounted for a third of the total fouls that Roma committed in that game (15).

I’m particularly interested in Mancini’s battle with De Ketelarere and Zalewski here - who drew eight fouls between them when the sides last met. The attacking duo, usually operating just behind a central striker, combine to win 4.34 fouls per 90 in Serie A this season - suggesting that they can cause Mancini serious problems again in this encounter. 

Mancini has committed 65 fouls across his 30 starts in Serie A this season (2.27 per 90). This is quite a substantial increase on the 1.40 fouls committed per 90 he averaged in Serie A last season, indicating that Mancini has grown even more aggressive in the Italian top flight this term - and can be tested regularly by Atalanta’s two number 10s who caused him a real headache earlier in the season.
