Juventus had a night to forget when they last visited the Mapei Stadium, as they were beaten 4-2 by Sassuolo. Chances were readily available at both ends of the field, as the hosts racked up 1.6 xG from their 18 shots, while Juventus registered 15 efforts and 1.16 xG in return.

Sassuolo have won both of the last head-to-head meetings against Juventus on home turf, so they have every reason to approach this fixture with confidence.

However, Juventus find themselves in a real rich vein of form, and they’re going to take some stopping. Although they were held to a 1-1 draw by Lecce at the weekend, the Bianconeri were utterly dominant and were desperately unlucky to only leave with one point.

They racked up 25 shots and six big chances, but only managed to score once. Jonathan David was partially responsible, as his missed penalty proved costly.

Juventus hit the woodwork twice in that game and racked up a total of ten corners. That result halted a four-game win streak for the Bianconeri, highlighting just how effective they have been under Luciano Spalletti.

Since taking over from Igor Tudor at the helm, Spalletti’s Juventus are averaging 5.54 corners per game and have registered some notable corner counts in recent weeks.

Prior to their tally of ten at the weekend, Juventus accrued eight corners against Pisa and 13 corners in their last Champions League outing against Pafos. They are averaging 16.5 shots per game under Spalletti, underlining how effective they have been at breaking into the final third and creating chances, which makes corners a target.

Meanwhile, Sassuolo are averaging 4.5 corners conceded per game, and Parma managed seven corners at the weekend against the Black and Greens.

Andrea Pinamonti accounted for four of Sassuolo’s 11 shots at the weekend, but he was left frustrated as none of those hit the target. Still, the centre forward has shown a tendency to arrive in the right positions, averaging 2.77 shots per 90 this season, and he usually doesn’t hesitate to pull the trigger.

That total rises to 3.38 shots per 90 on home turf, where Sassuolo seem to play with a lot more confidence, creating more chances in the final third.

Despite their positive form, Juventus have at times shown a vulnerability at the back, and they are averaging 13.3 shots conceded per game when playing away, much higher than their average of 9.7 shots conceded per game in Turin.

The Bianconeri haven’t been as convincing on their travels as they have been at home, which should give Sassuolo confidence to be progressive in their tactics.

Spalletti has brought a renewed intensity to the Allianz Stadium, and because of that, Juventus have seen an uptick in fouls.

The Bianconeri are averaging 13.25 fouls per game under the new manager, rising to 14.5 when playing away. The Italian international looks poised to improve on those numbers on Tuesday night, given how he will be up against Ismael Kone and Kristian Thorstvedt in midfield. Those two have combined for an average of 4.15 fouls drawn per 90 this season, proving to be difficult to contain in the centre of the park.

They are adept at alleviating pressure by buying soft free-kicks, which bodes well as Locatelli can be overly-aggressive in his press.
