  • Crystal Palace hold a commanding 3-1 lead from the first leg, putting them in a great position to book their spot in the Conference League final.

  • Sarr scored the fastest goal in Conference League history in the first leg, as he opened the scoring after just 21 seconds.

  • The first leg was played at a neutral venue in Krakow, but Shakhtar still managed 71% possession against the Premier League side.

4 Selections @ 9.00

Over 2.5 Goals @ 1.80

Shakhtar managed 16 shots worth 1.15 xG from their possession in the first leg, while Palace recorded ten shots worth 2.2 xG in return. The Eagles were content to play on the counter, and they were able to carve through Shakhtar easily - in fact, Oliver Glasner’s men accrued five big chances. They are likely to opt for similar tactics for the second leg, while Shakhar will have to commit bodies forward into their attacks for any chance of progressing in the competition. That could leave the Ukrainian open at the back, which again makes goals a target.

Shakhtar have been one of the most entertaining sides in the Conference League this season - over 2.5 goals has landed in all five of their knockout matches so far. They are still yet to lose an away game on the European stage this season, which will give them hope coming into this clash.

Over 3.5 Shakhtar Donetsk Corners @ 1.53

Shakhtar racked up 13 corners in the first leg against Palace - the Eagles kept things compact in central areas, which funneled the play out wide. The Ukrainian side were forced to try and play around Palace and send crosses into the box, which worked well for the visitors. With Chris Richards and Maxence Lacroix at the back, they have two very physical players who are dominant in the air, so they were able to deal with these crosses.

Glasner has no reason to deviate from that winning strategy, so a similar performance is expected from his side. Shakhtar will have to be front-footed right from the outset at Selhurst Park, which means they will try to get the ball into the box or shoot at every available opportunity. Shakhtar’s only goal of the game in the first leg came from a corner, so once again they are likely to rely on set-pieces to try and get their breakthrough.

Eguinaldo to have 1+ Shots on Target @ 2.30

Eguinaldo was one of Shakhtar’s most active players in the final third in the first leg, and he was unfortunate not to land this selection. The 21-year-old recorded five shots, all of which were from inside the box - two efforts were blocked, and the other three were off target. The Brazilian international is averaging 4.58 shots per 90 in the Conference League this season, which is the highest figure in the Shakhtar squad. He is a real livewire in the final third, always looking to make things happen, and Arda Turan will be relying on him if his side are to complete the comeback here.

Eguinaldo was rested at the weekend, but he recently bagged a brace in the league against Rukh Vynnky, before also scoring against LNZ Cherkasy. He comes into this clash in good form, and will hope to make the difference against Palace here.

Tyrick Mitchell 3+ Tackles @ 1.73

On the opposite flank, Alisson Santana looks set to face Tyrick Mitchell again. The Brazilian is a tricky customer to contain, excellent with the ball at his feet, and he caused Mitchell a lot of problems in the first leg. The Palace left back finished that game with two fouls to his name, in addition to eight tackles, so he looks set for another test at Selhurst Park on Thursday night.

Mitchell hasn’t been the most aggressive player when it comes to duels, but he is averaging 2.79 tackles per 90 this season across all competitions. He has landed this selection in each of his last three home outings, including three tackles against Fiorentina in the previous round of the Conference League. The main focus here is his matchup against Allison on the flank, who is expected to see plenty of the ball again especially considering the gamestate.

📈 Crystal Palace v Shakhtar Donetsk Form & Stats

Crystal Palace were beaten 3-0 by Bournemouth at the weekend, in what was a poor performance from the Eagles, but it seems like their full focus is on this Conference League semi-final. In fact, Glasner opted for a bit of rotation, and his key players only featured from the bench, Palace are 15th in the Premier League standings, highlighting what has been quite an inconsistent campaign. But there are no concerns of relegation, so Glasner seems focused on ending his tenure at the club by delivering silverware.

The first leg in Krakow was a professional and composed performance from Palace - they made history after Ismaila Sarr scored the quickest ever goal in the competition, before Daichi Kamada and Jorgen Strand Larsen also found the back of the net in the second half.

Meanwhile, Shakhtar came away with a 2-1 win against Dynamo Kyiv at the weekend, to put them 10 points clear at the top of the standings. They have a mammoth task at hand on Thursday night, but that victory will act as a confidence booster. Shakhtar are unlikely to go down without a fight, especially considering how they are unbeaten in any of their six Conference League away games.

📔 Crystal Palace v Shakhtar Donetsk Formation & Team News

Oliver Glasner is expected to name his strongest lineup for this decisive second leg, which means Ismaila Sarr, Adam Wharton and Jean-Philippe Mateta are all set for a recall to the starting XI. Daichi Kamada should continue in midfield after registering a goal and an assist in the first leg. Chadi Riad went off with an injury against Bournemouth, which means Chris Richards should return to the XI as well to partner Jaydee Canvot and Maxence Lacroix in a familiar back three.

Arda Turan also had the luxury of making some changes at the weekend, with Shakhtar cruising domestically. Alisson and Eguinaldo were both unused substitutes, and they look set to occupy the flanks this weekend. Oleg Ocheretko scored the only goal of the game for Shakhtar in that first leg, and he should continue in a defensive midfield role, while Kaua Elias is expected to lead the line.
