Schaffhausen v Aarau
🏟
Friday 9th September – 7:15PM KO
Schaffhausen and Aarau both flirted with returns to the top-flight of Swiss football last season. FCS fell short at the playoffs while Aarau missed out on the final day despite needing only a point to secure automatic promotion. It is something that they will be keen to put right this time around.
With just eight goals scored and nine conceded, Schaffhausen have been very efficient so far. At times, that has worked very well, scoring victories by a single goal over Thun and Stade Lausanne-Ouchy but their lack of firepower has also been to their detriment, losing their last two home games by a single goal to FC Wil and Yverdon-Sport. With one win in their last four games, FCS need to find a more ruthless streak if they are to climb the table. They sit down in seventh, some ten points ahead of winless Neuchatel Xamax at the bottom but also three off of top spot and with a negative goal difference.
Aarau head into this game as the top scorers in the division and second only to Young Boys for goals in the top two divisions. Much of the reason for that is down to Shkelqim Vladi. The striker, signed from YB in the summer, has already scored eight goals and while he didn’t feature on the scoresheet in the 2-1 win over Wil last weekend, he remains one of the most dangerous players in the league. In that victory, Valon Fazliu delivered two assists to take Aarau within a point of the leading pack.
The visitors did win on their last trip here in May, and I do believe their firepower will prove too much for Schaffhausen, despite the home side being relatively strong defensively. I also don’t think they have enough tools in attack to match the goals that Aarau could score here. For those reasons, I’d back Aarau, but I would take them draw no bet.

Stade Lausanne-Ouchy v FC Thun
🏟
Saturday 10th September – 5:00PM KO
After three winless games, perhaps all Stade Lausanne-Ouchy needed to return to winning ways was a bit of luck to swing a game in their favour. After their 2-1 victory over Neuchatel Xamax last weekend, it is fair to say they had that luck in abundance as two own goals turned the match around to give them the three points. Despite that win, SLO have struggled to find a patch of good form and will be hoping Thun’s visit can bring around their fourth win from eight games.
Thun have improved over the last few weeks after an underwhelming start to their campaign, stretching their unbeaten run to four matches, scoring nine goals and grabbing a highly-impressive home win over title favourites and league leaders Lausanne in their last outing. That, alongside the 1-1 draw away to second-placed Wil in the previous week, will give plenty of confidence to the Bernese outfit.
This fixture produced in a big way last season with twelve goals across the four matches, and I think we could be in for a similarly entertaining game here. SLO are strong at home, only failing to score in three of their last fifteen matches and will fancy their chances of scoring against a Thun side that haven’t kept a clean sheet in eight matches. SLO have conceded in their last nine though, so I think Thun can find the net themselves and both teams will score in this one.
