Alex Pereira (C) v Khalil Rountree Jr. (#8) – UFC Light Heavyweight Championship
👊🏻 Alex Pereira by KO (1.36)
Alex Pereira is back once again to headline yet another UFC PPV.
This time in Salt Lake City, Utah, where he faces off against former TUF contestant and #8 in the LHW rankings Khalil Rountree Jr.
Do not expect this one to go this distance, with both fighters coming from a Muay Thai and kickboxing background and boasting sensational KO records.
Rountree Jr comes into this as a 3/1 outsider just to win, and while that seems decent value, it’s difficult to see him overcoming the superstar that is ‘Poatan’.
Rountree is riding an impressive five-fight win streak, but the list of opponents hardly would blow you away for a fighter competing for the belt.
Doubters will point to his win over Gokhan Saki back in 2018 as proof that Rountree Jr can hang with the striking elite, but Pereira is in a world of his own and has blown away the far better competition than his counterpart.
This is not one to miss, with a KO almost guaranteed. We’re siding with Pereira to keep his legacy at 205 going strong.
Raquel Pennington (C) v Julianna Peña (#1) – UFC Women’s Bantamweight Championship
👊🏻 Raquel Pennington on Points (2.0)
Despite neither fighter having a ‘fan-friendly’ style, there is still good value to be found in the co-main event for the women’s 135 belt.
Raquel Pennington comes into this riding an impressive six-fight win streak, five of which have come by way of decision.
It’s surprising to see the bookmakers pricing Pennington at evens to win the fight on the judges’ scorecards, which is why we’re siding with the Colorado native to regain her belt in what should be a grappling affair.
Peña on the other hand is coming off an over two-year lay-off following her title fight loss to Amanda Nunes in what was shockingly a decision loss in a fight that should’ve been stopped in favour of Nunes.
Peña shocked the entire world when submitting Nunes in their first fight to win the belt in 2018, and while that will no doubt be the highlight of her MMA career, it’s hard to see her overcoming a far more active fighter here.
Jose Aldo (#10) v Mario Bautista (#11) – Bantamweight
👊🏻 Jose Aldo to Win (2.10)
The King of Rio is back. Jose Aldo’s return from MMA retirement continues, and with that, he is set to add to his impressive CV of opponents in upstart Mario Bautista.
Again, it’s surprising that the bookmakers have Aldo priced as this much of an outsider for this one, especially after his comeback performance against Jonathan Martinez.
That was Aldo’s first MMA fight in just under two years, and he looked like he didn’t miss a beat with a unanimous 30-27 win over Martinez.
Bautista is not one to underestimate, however. His six-fight win streak has seen him take a well-deserved place in the Bantamweight Top 15, especially with three of them coming by way of finish.
Aldo will be hard-pushed to get Bautista out of there inside the three rounds, and at odds of over evens, expect Aldo to get the nod overall to air on the side of caution.
Ketlen Vieira (#2) v Kayla Harrison (#3) – Women’s Bantamweight
👊🏻 Kayla Harrison by Submission (4.0)
The highest-priced selection of these UFC 307 best bets and that’s owed in large part to the fact Kelten Vieira has never lost by decision. I predict that record will change come the conclusion of the action in Utah.
Why you ask? In her way is former Olympic Gold Medalist in Judo and former PFL champion, Kayla Harrison.
Harrison has finally made the long-awaited move to the UFC and got off to a flyer with a dominant submission win over former champion Holly Holm at UFC 300.
Given her background in judo, expect Harrison to dominate the clinch and get this one to the ground, despite Vieira’s Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt.
Seven of Harrison’s 17 wins have come by way of submission, and at a price of 3/1, it’s hard to turn down.
Vieira has traded wins and losses in recent years, going 4-3 in her last seven fights.
Harrison is priced at 1/10 just to win, so we’re taking the value selection and backing her to make Vieira tap inside three rounds on Sunday morning.
