Rob Edwards can take some consolation from the fact that his side have at least scored in back-to-back games, after failing to find the back of the net in their five matches prior. The real issue has been defensively though - Wolves have conceded 35 goals from their 16 league matches this campaign.

Brentford themselves haven’t been in the best of form, failing to win any of their last four matches, but they will fancy their chances of breaking out of that rut this weekend.

The Bees have won just one away match in the Premier League this season, losing the other seven, making it difficult to pick a winner here based on how both sides have struggled at the back.

Brentford have conceded multiple goals in seven of their eight matches on the road this season, while Wolves have done the same in six of their eight outings at Molineux.

Wolves had committed the most fouls in the league prior to Rob Edwards taking over, and they have maintained that aggressive style of play under the new manager. In fact, their average has actually increased since Edwards took over - Wolves racked up 13 fouls against Crystal Palace on his debut, and 21 infringements against local rivals Aston Villa in their next game.

Arsenal were fouled 15 times against Wolves last weekend, with the visitors accounting for all four yellow cards shown that evening. The Old Gold have been shown 15 yellow cards in their five games since the appointment of their new manager, averaging 3.0 cards per game alone.

Matt Donohue is the designated referee for this clash, taking charge of his first Premier League game this season. He officiated two top flight matches in the 2023/24 season, during which he dished out 13 cards.

Brentford have drawn the seventh-most yellow cards in the division, despite ranking rock bottom of the table for total fouls drawn. The Bees have been fouled on average just 9.0 times per game this campaign, but Kevin Schade has contributed his fair share to that tally.

The German international is averaging 1.46 fouls drawn per 90 in the Premier League this season, and has landed this selection in four of his last five starts overall. He missed out against Leeds last weekend due to suspension, but will be available once again for this clash. With Dango Ouattara departing to AFCON with Burkina Faso, Schade’s importance in the final third should increase massively, and he should see a lot of the ball.

Schade is likely to be up against Matt Doherty on the flank - he committed six fouls and was booked against Arsenal last time out.

Hwang Hee-Chan was another player re-introduced to the starting lineup against the league leaders, who found himself in the referee’s notebook. The South Korean international somehow managed to commit more fouls than Doherty against the Gunners, with six infringements to his name.

He played with a lot of intent and aggression, which is exactly what Wolves need at the moment, so he could keep his place in the starting lineup alongside Jorgen Strand Larsen. Hwang’s minutes have been limited this season, but he has committed a foul in six of his nine starts, with multiple infringements in four of those matches. The 29-year-old is averaging 2.64 fouls per 90, which is amongst the highest in the Wolves squad.

Hwang should find duels against Michael Kayode of Brentford, who is averaging 1.1 fouls drawn per 90 this campaign in defence.
