The likes of van Veen, Humphries and Price have to be seeing this as a real opportunity to pick up a rare major in the age of Luke Littler with the Nuke crashing out in the first round to Luke Woodhouse.

This format is made for van Veen, he’s been the best player in the PDC on the outer ring over the last few years - hovering around a checkout percentage of 42% which is really impressive across various competitions and majors.

Gian van Veen has struggled a little in the scoring phase of his game since reaching the final of the World Championships last year, but I think we will see this part of van Veen’s game recover with time and a shot at a second major title after winning the European Championship last year should be all the motivation he needs.

I thought Ryan Searle was quite fortunate against Willie O’Connor in the first round, the Irishman maintained an average of 91.03 which is very impressive in this format and only lost 8-7 in legs.

Humphries recorded a routine 2-0 win over Dave Chisnall in the first round, which wasn’t surprising at all as he was a 1.17 favourite to win that clash.

This is slightly more testing assignment against a player in Wattimena who usually gets to this stage of majors but struggles to go much further. Wattimena’s best run at the World Grand Prix was in 2019, when he reached the quarter final but his opponent here is unlikely to give him a chance to reach that stage again.

Humphries has been the closest challenger to Littler in his period of dominance over the last year, so he will feel particularly motivated to make the most of this opportunity. He’s now the favourite to win the World Grand Prix (4.33) and I can see him getting to the semi finals at the very least with his draw.

Humphries has got the better of Wattimena in each of the three meetings between the pair this year, it’s set up perfectly for Cool Hand to finally add another major to his collection and I can’t see Wattimena standing in his way.

Form and Opponent Quality

We look at recent form alongside the performances behind those results. The quality of a player's opponents gives those numbers relevant context.

Scoring and Finishing

Scoring averages, checkout percentages and 180s help show how a player is playing. A strong scoring average can put a player in position to win legs, but missed doubles can change the result. That is why we consider finishing as well as scoring when assessing a match.

Head-to-Head and Format

Head-to-head records and tournament history can also be useful, particularly when the format changes, such as a move from legs to sets or the double start at the World Grand Prix.

Outrights and the Draw

For outright predictions, we consider the draw and the opponents a player could face in later rounds.

Darts Accumulator Tips and Daily Doubles

Our darts accumulator tips combine selections from different matches into one bet. Depending on the fixtures, these can include match winners, 180s selections or total legs and sets.

A double contains two selections, a treble contains three and a four-fold contains four. For a standard win accumulator, every selection must win for the bet to pay out. One losing selection loses the bet. If a selection is void, bookmakers usually remove it and recalculate the bet. You should always check the t&c’s of your bookmaker.

The combined price depends on the odds of each selection. Adding more picks increases the potential return, but also means more results have to go your way. Read the reasoning for each selection before deciding whether to follow the complete bet.

Darts 180 Betting Tips

A 180 is the maximum score from three darts. Our darts 180 tips can focus on which player will hit the most, a player's individual total or the combined number in a match.

The most 180s market is separate from the match result. A player can hit more maximums than their opponent and still lose the match if their finishing lets them down.

Match length also matters. A longer contest creates more opportunities to hit 180s, so comparing a player's total from a long match with another player's total from a short one can be misleading. Their 180s per leg and the expected length of the next match provide more context. Check whether the selection applies to one player or both combined, and how the bookmaker settles a tie in the most 180s market.

Other Darts Betting Markets Explained

Most darts markets are settled in legs or sets. A leg is a single game played from 501 down to zero, finished on a double. Some events group legs into sets, usually first to three legs. Check which format the match uses. Available combinations and settlement rules vary between bookmakers, so check the details on your betslip.

Alongside 180s, our darts predictions can cover these markets:

Match winner: Back a player to win the match, regardless of the final score.
Outright winner: Back a player to win the whole tournament.
Handicap betting: Give a player a virtual head start or deficit in legs or sets. A player backed at -2.5 legs needs to win by at least three legs.
Total legs or sets: Bet on whether the match finishes above or below the bookmaker's specified total. Check whether the market is measured in legs or sets.
Correct score: Predict the exact final score in the format used for that match.
Highest checkout: A checkout is the score a player finishes a leg with, and the highest possible is 170. Back a player to record the highest checkout in the match, or bet on an over/under line where offered.
Specials: Markets can include a 170 checkout or a nine-dart finish, where a player completes a leg in nine darts.
