Ukraine v England Analysis & Betting Tips
With the majority of my followers from the UK, I thought I would provide in-depth insight and analysis on how I expect the game to go in Rome tonight. Included will be predicted 11’s, how I expect the game to pan out and will finish with a couple of tips that I feel look good value having scoured the market.
England Analysis & Predicted Formation
The key decision that must be made by Gareth is whether he sticks with five at the back which proved to be successful or go back to a four which he played throughout the group stages. No doubt the best performance this summer from England came against the Germans when playing a five. However by playing this way they are limiting their options offensively and given the talent they have in offensive areas this feels a real waste. Against higher quality oppositions like the Germans, a five can prove effective. However, they really should be dominating against Ukraine and I personally feel a switch to a 4 is worthwhile for this one.
As always there are some leaked lineups floating around this morning and some extremely reliable sources are tipping Jadon Sancho to be handed his first start of the tournament. He is set to replace Bukayo Saka on the right wing with the Arsenal youngster carrying a knock. I think this is the right call with pace in the wide positions clearly working for England with Sterling and Saka performing exceptionally thus far. For me I would switch out a defender (probably Trippier) and move to a 4-3-3 to allow Mount in to the side in the most advanced midfield position. Then Sancho can come in for Saka in a like for like change and that team should really have more than enough to do the business against Ukraine tonight.
Southgate also has to decide whether he risks playing his 3 starters on a yellow card or rotates them out here knowing that cards refresh after the quarter-final stage. Midfield pair Kalvin Phillips and Declan Rice, as well as Manchester United captain are all carrying yellow cards and should they be booked in Rome would be suspended for the semi-finals. Southgate is often pragmatic in his team selection & tactical approach however so it would be wrong to assume there will be too many changes or a transformation in style. England are solid defensively and rely on moments of individual quality and set pieces to edge out games. It has worked well for them in recent years and although Southgate has his critics, if England go on to win the Euros then credit to him.
Bet Builder Tips
It may be a wise choice to wait until lineups on this one but should England lineup the way that I have predicted below then these are my best bet builder shouts in this one.

Jadon Sancho Anytime Assist
Well what a week it has been for the young man. A long-awaited transfer to Manchester United has now been completed and if sources are to be believed he will be handed his first start at the Euros tonight against Ukraine. The boy must be living on cloud 9 at the moment and I am expecting big things from the talented winger in Rome this evening. He is an exceptional talent and although England are stacked with exceptional players in that area it still baffles me how little minutes he has played thus far.
His overall tally of 16 goals and 20 assists in all competitions this season, added to 20 and 20 respectively from the previous campaign, underlines his status as one of Europe’s most dangerous young players. He consistently delivers on the biggest stage and the game tonight won’t faze him with Sancho used to regularly playing at the highest level week in week out with Borussia Dortmund. It is why United have been prepared to make him the fourth most expensive signing in the club’s history, after Paul Pogba, Harry Maguire and Romelu Lukaku. At 4.20 for an anytime assist, I think that looks cracking value and I expect Sancho to really make an impact for the three lions in this one.

Taras Stepanenko to be Carded
If one thing was clear from both their defeat to Austria, it was that Ukraine look much better with Taras Stepanenko in the side. His screening in front of the backline provides a solid platform to build from, and it allows Oleksandr Zinchenko and Ruslan Malinovskiy agency to roam forward without worry that there is insufficient protection behind them. He returned in the win against Sweden and was simply superb as he takes on the role as the midfield ‘destroyer’ allowing the players in front of him to flourish. He will have the extremely difficult task of keeping the likes of Sancho, Mount and Sterling etc quiet. He loves a card as his club stats with Shakhtar Donetsk can highlight. He has an incredible 115 cards in his career to date and looks a prime candidate for a card in this one. He is priced at 3.2 which again I feel to be a good addition for those looking to boost the odds on their personal bet builders.

Mason Mount 1+ Shot on Target
As you will have read already I expect Mount to come back in to the starting 11 here. He is a massive favourite of Southgate’s and enjoyed a truly exceptional season with Chelsea where he was instrumental in their champions league win. He will likely play in the most advanced role in midfield and with Trippier likely to be benched for this one I feel Mount is the most likely candidate to take up set piece duty. He averages just under a shot on target per game from the 2.22 he attempts and at a price of 1.83 looks the most value selection from an English point of view.

What is a Bet Builder?
A relatively new trend in the world of betting that is becoming extremely popular is a market called ‘Bet Builders’. Bet Builder is a feature that allows you to build your own bet from a variety of different football markets within the same match and then get a price almost instantly depending on the bookmaker you use.
The excitement tends to come with placing your bet builder alongside being able to watch the game live on television and ticking off your selections as they come in, perfect for the games in Euro 2020! Traditionally you’d be limited to the usual markets (match result, goals etc) but this new type of betting allows you to bet on new and exciting markets such as specific players to be carded or to have a shot on target as well as many other options. Bet builders also allows you to combine multiple selections in one game, in one bet to drive the odds up to a more lucrative amount.
As previously mentioned there are many different kind of selections you explore use when choosing a bet builder but the most common/popular are listed below.
- Player To Score Anytime
- Player To Score 2 Or More Goals (Or Similar)
- Player To Be Carded
- Player to attempt a shot
