Introduction
Just reaching the finals of Euro 2024 represents major success for Georgia but don’t expect them to simply roll over when they take their place at continental football’s top table for the first time this summer.
The Black Sea country will become the lowest-ranked nation to ever compete at the European Championships, currently occupying 85th place in the FIFA World Rankings.
As such, it’s little surprise to see the Crusaders considered as rank outsiders at 501.0 on Bet365, but the dangerous debutants don’t deserve to be completely dismissed.
Willy Sagnol will be expecting his side to put up stiff resistance and they have the potential to bloody the noses of their Group F foes.
Georgia’s hopes of progressing to the last-16 are likely to hinge on their match in the middle of their group-stage schedule with the Czech Republic.

🔮 Euro 2024 predictions
Tournament Prediction: Group Stage exit
You can back Georgia to finish bottom of Group F @ 1.67 on Paddy Power.
Understandably, Georgia kick-off their maiden European Championship campaign as significant underdogs in Group F and are fancied to finish bottom of the group.
While those odds are justified given the pedigree of the three nations they have been placed alongside, Georgia’s performances over the last couple of years suggest they can make things difficult for their Group F opponents.
The likes of Greece, Norway and Scotland all failed to take top honours from their respective trips to Tbilisi during the qualifying stage so the Crusaders are heading in the right direction.
However, there is no getting away from the fact that a series of strong home showings has been a big factor in Georgia’s upward curve in recent years. As such, Georgia will have to quickly adapt to their new and unfamiliar surroundings if they are going to make a splash in this section.
Ultimately though, navigating their way through what will be a fiercely competitive Group F looks beyond the tournament newbies.
Georgia Euro 2024 Qualifying Data
📖 How they qualified
After finishing a distant fourth in Group A, Georgia had to enter the pressure cooker of the play-offs in their latest quest to qualify for their first-ever major tournament.
The Crusaders were afforded that lifeline off the back of their exploits in the 2022-23 Nations League, where they banked 16 points from a possible 18 to secure promotion to Group B.
Willy Sagnol’s side defeated Luxembourg 2-0 in their Euro 2024 semi-final play-off before securing qualification with a dramatic 4 -2 penalty shootout win over Greece in the final following a tense 0-0 draw in Tbilisi.
Georgia’s attacking output took a noticeable jump during qualifying, as they only failed to score twice in 10 outings, most notably notching home and away against Spain. However, the underlying data suggests the Georgians were overperforming in front of goal, as they were four goals better off than their xG tally of 7.99.
At the other end of the park, Georgia found clean sheets hard to come by during qualifying, conceding more goals (18) than any of the other 23 sides that successfully forged a path to this summer’s showpiece.
The Crusaders were also the joint-highest ill-disciplined side in Group A, racking up 19 yellow cards across their eight group games, not to mention they received a red card during their play-off final with Greece. Being the lowest-ranked side at this year’s tournament, expect to see Willy Sagnol’s side throw their weight around again with a view to unsettling their superior Group F rivals.
👕 Players to watch
Georgia’s hopes of exceeding expectations at Euro 2024 will rest on the shoulders of 23-year-old star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. Only Erling Halland and Scott McTominay scored more Group A goals in qualifying than the Georgian poster boy, who netted four times and chipped in with one assist for good measure.
The Napoli forward’s influence on the national team cannot be underestimated and he could be worth a flutter to finish up as his country’s top scorer in Germany at 3.25 on BetVictor.
It could also pay to side with Georgia’s most famous footballing export in the player props markets. Kvaratskhelia is never afraid to let fly, having ranked joint-third across all of the players in qualifying for attempted shots (32) on goal, averaging 3.52 per 90.
His mesmeric dribbling skills should also cause headaches for his direct opponents. Kvaratskhelia averaged 9.5 dribbles per 90 in qualifying, which coincided with him drawing an average of 2.11 fouls per 90.
