With the end of the club football season fast approaching, Euro 2024 is just around the corner. As ever, we will be all over the tournament here on Andy’s Bet Club, providing you with Euro 2024 predictions and tips for a profitable month of top-quality football.
As ever, we will have our famous Cheat Sheet tool ready to go for every one of the 51 games to be played in Germany this summer, along with our expertly-crafted bet builders to help you find the value from the group stages to the final on July 14.
Underdog stories are what everyone loves to see at these tournaments, and as we demonstrated during the 2022 World Cup, backing a longshot can be lucrative. Portugal may be heavy favourites to win Group F but the rest of the group is up in the air and could provide a nice jumping off point for a nation to shock the continent, much as Denmark did in 2021 with their run to the semi-finals.
If you find a longshot an intriguing prospect, our dark horse and longshot tips can help you navigate the underdogs and find value in a crowded field.
The only debutants at this edition of the European Championships, Georgia booked their spot in Germany in the most dramatic way possible, overcoming Greece on penalties.
The nation, situated between Russia and Turkey in the Caucasus is the lowest-ranked side in the competition according to FIFA’s World Rankings, coming in at 75th. Georgia finished fourth in Group A in qualifying, beating Cyprus twice and securing home draws against Norway and Scotland, losing each of their remaining four games.
They were beneficiaries of the third-tier Nations League play-off, overcoming Greece and Luxembourg to reach the finals, and are widely expected to struggle. The last two sides side to qualify from their performance in third and fourth-tiers of the Nations League were Scotland and North Macedonia, both of whom finished dead last in their groups, with just one point secured between the two sides.
Only Albania (unfortunate enough to be placed with Spain, Italy and Croatia) have longer odds (3.60) than Georgia to qualify for the knockout stages (2.60), indicative of just how tough this is likely to be, despite a friendly draw for the first-timers.
The obvious player to watch is Napoli winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who top scored in qualifying with four goals from nine games. ‘Kvaradona’, as he is affectionately known in Naples, took at least two shots in all nine of his qualifying appearances for Georgia, having three or more shots in six of these nine. With a shot on target in four of his last five competitive starts for his nation, and his 32 shots during qualifying being 12 more than anyone else in a Georgian shirt, he is one to watch in the shots markets.
Expect Georgia to enter the tournament with a defensive mindset despite their attacking talent which includes Kvaratskhelia, Georges Mikautadze and Giorgi Chakvetadze. They had the joint-least goals per game of any nation to qualify, at just 1.36, and kept just one clean sheet in eight group phase games.
Even if the Crusaders do attempt to set up to defend, it may not make much of a difference. Having shipped two or more goals in five of their last six group phase games during qualifying, including a 7-1 away loss to Spain, backing the over goals markets in games involving Georgia may be a smart play.
