⚔️ Gameweek 23 Review – 65 Points (59 Average)
Back to the green arrows again. A great start to the GW with Raya (9 pts) picking up a clean sheet, extra save point and 2 bonus points, although the remainder of my defence returned a minuscule amount.
Keeping Mbeumo (7pts) is paying off with a first goal in 3 games while Salah (8pts) continues to do what he does best by returning. Fernandes (3pts) and Palmer (2pts) didn’t return this GW, but both came close more than once, a good indication for the upcoming GWs. Forwards this week held the fort. Isak (13pts) with a haul after a blank and it’s time again for a Vardy party. I backed him to score against a poor Spurs defence and he answered the call with a goal and all 3 bonus points to boost my score above average this week. The bench was nothing to write home about but hopefully, Dalot (7pts) could be on the cusp of some form with a clean sheet and extra bonus points. After a red arrow, the perfect remedy was a medium-sized green one… and that’s exactly what we achieved.

✅ The Best 2 Transfers IN for Gameweek 24
🏴 Cole Palmer – Chelsea (£11.3m, 65%)
The slightly forgotten premium asset for this GW. With Palmer blanking in his last 2 matches, he has slipped down the pecking order but over the next few GWs, I expect him to rekindle FPL managers liking for him, starting with West Ham. In the reverse fixture, he scored a goal in an easy 3-0 win, and I am expecting even more this time in the form of double-digits.
But for transferring in assets we must also look for a favourable medium-term (2-6 games) and Palmer’s looks very appetising. West Ham, Brighton, Aston Villa, Southampton, and Leicester are all great teams to attack, and he has already returned against the majority of them this season. 8 pts, 25 pts, 14 pts, 7 pts, 2 pts – Leicester were the only team he blanked against. 56 points in 5, just imagine if he repeated that feat. We love opportunity on this page and Palmer has bags of it, so make sure you have him in your squad.
🇳🇱 Cody Gakpo – Liverpool (£7.6m, 17%)
1 of the most transferred-in players last GW and is currently the top brought in this week. At first, I wasn’t sure about the move last week but after registering 2 goals, an assist and 3 bonus points he has proved his ability to haul, which not all players can do. He has started every game since GW12 and cemented his starting place in a once very rotated Liverpool frontline. Yes, a few times he can be substituted around the 70-minute mark, but his upcoming double-game week and form offset this, you should look at bringing him in. With a plethora of forward options now emerging, yes, he’s not likely to stay in your team for the remainder of the season, but currently, he’s a top option so think about his inclusion.
🇨🇲 Bryan Mbeumo – Brentford (£7.8m, 33%)
Just outside the top 5 most transferred-in (6th) is Bryan Mbeumo. Many managers decided to drop him through the tough fixtures of Man City and Liverpool, but those games are the only 2 in the last 5 in which he has blanked.
A goal last week against Crystal Palace sees him get back on track and next up is a leaky Spurs defence. Tottenham have conceded 6 goals in their last 3 away matches and with recent performances I don’t see that changing anytime soon. With Mbeumo being the star man at Brentford, involved in what seems like almost every single attacking return and his ability to haul, I see a great opportunity for many FPL points. With the pressure around Postecoglou currently, if Spurs slip behind early they will have to take the game to Brentford, allowing Mbeumo and Wissa to perform their double-act antics and possibly lead to Postecoglou’s final downfall. However the game plays out, I see Mbeumo being fully involved so I’m glad he’s in my team, is he in yours?
❌ The Best 3 Transfers OUT for Gameweek 24
🇧🇷 Joao Pedro – Brighton (£5.6m, 14%)
Apart from the penalty v Arsenal, Pedro hasn’t scored a goal since GW12. As a manager who got rid of him way back in GW14, I can only imagine the frustration of owners. 5 goals and 5 assists from 15 starts isn’t the best return but it’s his 0.28 expected Goals (xG) stat that should alarm you the most.
A forward first and foremost is there to score goals, and 1 every 3 games is not good enough in my book. That aside. I could possibly overlook and stick with him through a poor form patch, but for me, it’s the drama that often comes with Pedro in your team. Every other GW it seems there is always drama or a playing/injury doubt surrounding him, and that’s not what you need as an FPL manager. GW decisions are hard enough to make without extra pressure being applied unnecessarily. With only 2 double-digit hauls and a highest score of 12 this season, he’s not worth the risk to keep, hoping he comes good. My advice is to get rid and enjoy not stressing over his selection. With his tough price point, I would trade upwards and look at the likes of Wissa or risk it with Everton’s Ndiaye.
🏴 Lewis Hall – Newcastle (£5.1m, 27%)
He’s been a revelation, but his time has come to an end (for now). A super cheap asset with a monstrous run of 5 clean sheets in 6 (GW16-21) culminating in a huge 48 points see him rise to the overall 4th highest-scoring defender currently. But this run looks to have ended now with 1 clean sheet in 4, even conceding to sorry Southampton. He’s still great value for only £5.1m but don’t expect his previous numbers to repeat for the foreseeable. With Man City, Nottingham Forest and Liverpool in the next 4, it may be a better option to transfer him out than keep him on the bench, unlock your funds invested in him and use them.
🇲🇽 Raul Jiminez – Chelsea (£4.8m, 12%)
The flavour of the month has soured. After picking up some form and a few good scores of 9 and 13 points, hopes were high for his next 2 fixtures v West Ham and Leicester. But 2 blanks against weak opponents and heavily reduced minutes have ended his desirability amongst FPL managers. For the most points weekly, you at least require players to play the majority of the match and only being on the pitch for 135 of 180 minutes available, is not good at all. After all, the more time your player is on the pitch, the more chance they have to score points. A tough next 2 matches v Newcastle and Nottingham Forest isn’t likely to increase his chances either, get rid ASAP.
Top Tip – Chip Strategy. 15 GWs may seem like a lot in which to utilise the rest of your chips, but it’s really not. I currently have all 5 chips remaining (Bench Boost, Triple Captain, Wildcard, Free Hit and Assistant Manager) and if you do also, that takes up almost 50% of the remaining Gameweeks. So start looking forward and think about the best time in which to play your chips, maximising those available FPL points.
🦸 Gameweek 24 Captaincy Selections
🇪🇬 Mohamed Salah – Liverpool (£13.7m, 70%)
The first return in 3… normality has resumed. With Salah back to scoring points, he is the number 1 captaincy choice due mostly to the fact he has a double gameweek and plays 2 games. It looks difficult with 2 away games, Bournemouth in great form and Everton seemingly starting to tighten up at the back, picking up points as a result. But team, remember this is Liverpool and Salah. On their day, they can turn it on against any team in Europe not just in the Premier League, and I think many managers will be saying to themselves, ‘What was I thinking.’ It’s Salah. he’s locked in as captain for me.
Alternative Captain Options
Outside of the main pick, I think Cole Palmer is a really underrated shout this GW. He plays a West Ham team that for me are still very vulnerable, especially at the back. Elsewhere, another Liverpool attacker or Everton defender/GK for the double-game week is a sound pick, and the best of these picks are Gakpo and Pickford. There really is an opportunity to go against the grain for your captaincy selection, so think carefully.
Top three for me this GW: Salah, Palmer, and Mbeumo.
👁️ FPL Veteran’s Vision and Verdict
Saving an FT from last GW, I have a few ways I could go this GW. I need to remedy the lack of points in my backline, and I could make the change by taking advantage of the double GW at the same time. Veltman and Konsa could both go with a further change in midfield likely to be Liverpool attackers and Everton’s defenders. With the assistant manager chip now available, this is something else to consider, but I will wait to see how it plays out before I use it. I will definitely be bringing in a Liverpool and Everton player but the third is still undecided. As we move into the latter part of the season, each decision becomes critical so ensure you check my final team on X before the next deadline, Saturday 1st Feb, 1100hrs. Let’s see what final team you have decided on.
