Betting Highlights
When it was reported that Alex Smith's horrific leg injury might not be career-ending, I backed him to win Comeback Player of the Year. I managed to get on with a few bookies, across a period of a few weeks, and was buzzing when he was cleared to return to the sport by his doctors.
It was still a long road back for him to play, but I fancied that the team would get him on the field, even if it was just for a charitable snap at the end of the season, and overcoming adversity would win him the award. He ended up coming back, starting for Washington, and actually had a solid season. It was great to win the cash but also enjoy a real feel-good story.
Betting Heartbreak
Some of my best betting is based around anytime touchdowns. I study snap counts, coach speak, and injury reports to find players that will perhaps get more gametime and opportunity than their Anytime TD odds would suggest.
There have been countless examples through the years when I get it right, the player ends up getting a lot of time on the field, but sadly doesn't score. It's good to know the process is correct, but a killer when you don't get the payoff for it.
