2026 Scottish Grand National Preview

There are currently 25 runners set to take part in Saturday's Scottish Grand National at Ayr, including two fancies from ABC's horse racing expert Dave Revers - King Of Answers and Kim Roque.

King Of Answers arrives at Ayr as an improving chaser with strong claims for this stamina test. The Malinas gelding has won twice from five starts over fences, both victories coming at Kelso over just shy of three miles. His most recent run was a career-best effort in the National Hunt Novices' Chase at the Cheltenham Festival over three miles and six furlongs, where he finished second, staying on powerfully in the closing stages. That performance suggests the four-mile trip at Ayr could bring about further improvement.

Kim Roque is preferred over Quebecois, who ran well to finish third in the Ultima Handicap Chase at Cheltenham, largely due to uncertainty over the latter's participation should the field not reach the required size. Kim Roque shaped with considerable promise at the Cheltenham Festival, running on into fourth in the Kim Muir Handicap Chase from well off the pace, one of the few runners in the race to finish through strongly from the back.

That effort can be treated with some leniency given the circumstances, and he has shown untapped potential over stamina-sapping trips. His owner's Scottish connections make a run at Ayr the most likely option, though engagements at Sandown and Punchestown remain possibilities.
