Oleksandr Usyk v Rico Verhoeven Fight Preview
Oleksandr Usyk meets Rico Verhoeven in one of the wildest crossover fights combat sports has seen in years.
Taking place in Egypt, the unbeaten heavyweight king puts his world title and reputation on the line against kickboxing royalty.
Usyk heads into this one unbeaten in his 24 boxing fights, and he'll fancy his chances of making that 25 victories against the inexperienced Verhoeven.
Usyk beat Daniel Dubois back in 2025, and this will be his first fight back in the ring, with the Ukrainian taking a break from boxing after that win over the British heavyweight.
Verhoeven, who is an MMA star, believes he can shock the boxing world, but Usyk’s experience at the highest level makes him the clear favourite heading into Saturday evening.

Oleksandr Usyk to Win by TKO in Rounds 5-8
Usyk’ has an efficient style which is proven to be more than effective in his fights. He seems to have the knack of being able to go through the gears slowly, and not holding out on one-punch power, but instead being capable of closing the show through domination, which ultimately often proves too much for his opposition.
We’ve seen it on numerous occasions now, most notably against Tony Bellew and in his first fight with Tyson Fury, where Usyk has allowed himself to grow into the fight and then push the pace to take control.
Verhoeven has promised to take the fight to the unbeaten Usyk, but an upset seems highly unlikely given the lack of experience in the boxing ring from the Dutchman, as well as Usyk being a class apart.
What Verhoeven does bring to the table is confidence and ‘the unknown’, so in my opinion, the early Usyk stoppage (rounds 1-4 at 5/4) seems to be a short price. Instead, I expect that Usyk will allow himself a few rounds to take a look at Verhoeven and see what he's dealing with, safe in the knowledge that he can take him out when he feels appropriate.
As a star of the MMA, I expect Verhoeven’s corner or the referee to save him from too much humiliation in this one, with one of them likely to intervene and award Usyk with a TKO win in rounds 5-8.
