I think it is fair to say that most teams are looking at their matches against Sheffield Wednesday as three points. Whilst this is a pretty harsh outlook, it has also been true as they have now lost 12 in a row in all competitions.
Wednesday looked a fairly broken team at Norwich in midweek, coming off the back of their relegation being confirmed by their bitter rivals on Sunday. They barely threatened the Norwich goal, creating less than 0.4xG on the night, conceding twice before half-time and conceding over 2xG in the match to the Canaries. That was the 16th time in 17 matches that Wednesday have created less than 1xG in a match in all competitions.
It is as much about Southampton here as well though. They won 5-0 in midweek against a decent, if inconsistent, QPR team, and they are within touching distance of the play-offs now as they sit in seventh ahead of this match. Saints have found the net in 10 consecutive matches now, covering the 1.5 goal line in three of their last four league wins, as well as the 1-1 draw with Charlton as well.
In five of their last six matches Southampton have created 1.4xG or more as well, whilst Sheffield Wednesday have conceded 1.4xG or more in their last 12 in a row.
