FCSB Double Chance

I was surprised to see FCSB priced up as the outsiders here, so much so that I’m keen to back the away side to avoid defeat on Thursday night. The Romanian heavyweights enjoyed a quietly impressive run to the last 16 of last season’s Europa League where their journey was brought to an end by Lyon.

Elias Charalambous’ side set up this tie with Aberdeen after comfortably dispatching Kosovan outfit Drita by an aggregate scoreline of 6-3.

While Aberdeen defeated Morton 3-0 in the Scottish League Cup on Saturday, they have lost each of their opening two Scottish Premiership games of the season, meaning that they have triumphed in just 5 of their last 28 top-flight matches dating back to last season. With that in mind, I’m more than happy to oppose the hosts on Thursday night.

Daniel Birligea to Score Anytime

FCSB’s Daniel Birligea holds plenty of appeal to get on the scoresheet on Thursday night at 3.6. The Romanian striker has made a real impact since returning from injury in recent weeks, bagging a brace in FCSB’s home win over Drita before netting his first league goal of the season away at Rapid Bucharest on Sunday night.

The 25-year-old hit an impressive 21 goals across his 46 appearances in all competitions last season, which doesn't augur well for an Aberdeen side that are not accustomed to keeping clean sheets.

  • Aberdeen have lost their opening two Scottish Premiership matches of the season, conceding 2 goals in each of those two defeats.

  • FCSB have lost just one of their last four matches, winning both legs of their third round qualifier with Drita.

  • FCSB have scored 2 goals or more in four of their last five matches.

Aberdeen will get their European campaign underway when they face FCSB in the first leg of a Europa League play-off tie at Pittodrie on Thursday night

The hosts are marginal 2.45 favourites with the visitors 2.7 outsiders, while the draw has been priced up at 3.2.

🔴 Aberdeen Search for Consistency

After losing each of their opening two Scottish Premiership matches of the season, Aberdeen picked up their first victory of the campaign with a 3-0 success away at Morton in the Scottish League Cup on Saturday. Despite the season still being in its infancy, Dons boss Jimmy Thelin was under a bit of pressure ahead of last weekend’s trip to Morton, so that victory will have helped steady the ship for now.

Thelin’s team did look a little toothless in attack in their Scottish Premiership games with both Hearts and Celtic, mustering up a combined total of 3 shots on target across those two matches.

FCSB Looking to Bounce Back

FCSB will have to lift themselves up off the canvas after throwing away a two-goal lead in the dying embers of Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Rapid Bucharest. That setback has left Elias Charalambous’ side languishing way down in 13th place in the Romanian SuperLiga after six rounds of matches.

That being said, FCSB have lost just one of their last four matches across all competitions, defeating Drita both home and away in the previous round of Europa League qualifying. It’s also worth noting that the Red and Blues have scored 2 or more goals in four of their last five matches.

📊 Aberdeen v FCSB H2H

Aberdeen and FCSB will do battle for the first time ever on Thursday night before reconvening for next week’s return match in the Romanian capital.

FCSB did come up against Scottish opposition in last season’s Europa League, losing 4-0 against Rangers at Ibrox during the league phase of the competition.
