📈 Rangers v Aberdeen Form & Stats
Rangers’ 1-0 win at St Mirren last Sunday was the very definition of an ugly victory. Yet Danny Rohl’s side got the job done and are now just three points behind league leaders Hearts - and two behind 2nd-placed Celtic.
Rohl will have been particularly pleased to see his side keep a clean sheet, having failed to do so in their previous five Scottish Premiership matches, although they did manage a 0-0 draw with Celtic in their last home game, which was in the Scottish Cup.
Since taking over at Ibrox last autumn, Rangers have been formidable at home under Rohl, winning nine and drawing two of their 11 Scottish Premiership matches. One of those victories came against Aberdeen in January, a 2-0 success that the Light Blues quickly followed up with an identical 2-0 win at Pittodrie just five days later.
Rangers have drawn a red card from three of their last six Scottish Premiership opponents.
New Aberdeen boss Stephen Robinson looked set to make a winning start to his tenure last weekend, only for his side to be denied by a late equaliser in a 1-1 draw against Falkirk. That stalemate, combined with results elsewhere, leaves the Dons glancing over their shoulder at the relegation play-off spot, with the gap to 11th-placed Kilmarnock now just six points.
Even more worrying for Aberdeen is that they have won just one of their last 14 Scottish Premiership matches, coming away empty-handed from ten of those games. Robinson has also inherited a side that have taken just one point from their last eight league matches away from Pittodrie.
Last weekend’s draw with Falkirk was a rare one for Aberdeen, as it was only the sixth time in 30 Scottish Premiership matches this season that the Dons have played out a stalemate.
📔 Rangers v Aberdeen Formation & Team News
While Danny Rohl has predominantly used a 4-2-3-1 formation during his time in charge of Rangers, he has recently switched to a 4-2-2-2 system, which was utilised in last week’s 1-0 win over St Mirren.
As was the case last weekend, Rangers are once again expected to be without the injured trio of Bailey Rice, Derek Cornelius and Mohammed Diomande.
New Aberdeen boss Stephen Robinson was well known for favoring a back-three system during his time at St Mirren, and he wasted no time implementing it in his first game in charge of Aberdeen last weekend by opting for a 3-4-2-1 formation.
Aberdeen may be without Nicky Devlin once again, while Mats Knoester, Kristers Tobers and Nick Suman remain absent due to injury. Lyall Cameron will also be forced to sit this one out, as he is ineligible to feature against his parent club.
