Arsenal are in fine form and have the opportunity to go top of the Premier League this weekend with a victory over Brentford. The Gunners can make it eight league wins on the bounce when they welcome the Bees to the Emirates on Saturday evening.
Arsenal have been crushing all those that come in their tracks since the winter break, with their title charge gaining serious momentum over the last few weeks. Having shredded Sheffield United 6-0 in their last run-out and scoring a huge 27 goals across their last five league games with every player wanting to grab some of the action. No one wants to be facing Mikel Arteta’s boys right now, but next in line is Brentford.
After ending their three-game losing streak last weekend, Brentford managed to secure a point against London rivals Chelsea, or rather, had the full house stolen from their grasp after an 83rd-minute equaliser. The Bees sit six points above the dreaded dotted line and they’ll certainly be needing to pick up results sooner rather than later with teams creeping up behind. However, they face what might be the biggest challenge in English football right now.

🏆 Match stats: Arsenal going for the crown
Arsenal have been unstoppable so far in 2024 and they should be able to seize their opportunity to start putting real pressure on Liverpool and Man City, who sit just above them in the table. All the stats, and obvious form, point to that exact outcome.
Arsenal have won eight of their last ten games at home, including their last three, and have shown their immense scoring form in recent weeks. It’s worth noting that the three games they failed to win were all against other London sides. However, Brentford have found life on the road extremely difficult this season, losing nine away games from 13 trips this season and the Emirates is a pretty hostile venue to be playing at right now.
The Arsenal win is priced reasonably short for this affair and understandably so, but there is good reason to trust the handicap markets here. Across their last 3 home matches, the Gunners have scored 12 goals and conceded 2, both coming from strange defensive mishaps as opposed to the strength of the opposing attack. Mikel Arteta’s boys boast the best defensive record in the Premier League, shown prominently from their 3 clean sheets in their last 4 league outings.
The handicap (-1) selection looks most friendly and could be argued pretty conservative given their ripe scoring form right now, and Brentford have lost four of their last five away defeats by this margin (at least). This clash comes just a few days before their crucial home tie with Porto in the Champions League in which they’ll certainly be wanting all the momentum they can get, this should be another convincing victory.
For those that love the history behind these clashes, Arsenal have beaten Brentford in four of their last five meetings with the exception being their 1-1 draw at the Emirates last season.
Predictions:
⚽ Arsenal to win @ 1.20
⚽ Arsenal -1 handicap @ 1.62
🥅 Goals stats: Goals goals goals for the Gunners
It sure feels like one of the best markets to target across the whole of Premier League football right now is goals in Arsenal fixtures. We all know how dominant and high-scoring they’ve been lately and this should be another contest that follows that pattern.
At least 3+ goals have been scored in seven consecutive league games for Arsenal, with five of those actually seeing 5 or more bulges of the net. Now 67% of all of their league matches this season have seen over 2.5 goals. Six of the last seven league appearances for the Gunners have actually seen 4 or more goals and with the momentum building and building each week, it’s hard to see if this form is going to stop anytime soon.
Moving over to the visitors, Brentford have seemingly outscored the hosts in that latter category, with 70% of the Bees’ Premier League games this season seeing at least three goals scored. In fact, seven of their last nine league outings have witnessed 4+ goals and it seems the London derbies involving Brentford show particularly high-scoring trends also.
Four of the last five London Derbies for Brentford have witnessed 4+ goals, including 15 goals conceded for Thomas Frank’s boys – a pretty pitiful defensive record, especially on away days.
Of their last eight league fixtures, Arsenal have landed the over 2.5 goals selection on their own seven times, the other needing a slight helping hand from Nottingham Forest, so targeting goals markets for the hosts also looks valuable. Brentford have conceded 2+ goals in six of their last eight Premier League matches so this looks like a great leg to include in any bet builders.
Predictions:
⚽ Over 3.5 goals @ 2.20
⚽ Over 2.5 Arsenal goals @ 1.91
🎯 Shooting stats: Everyone wants a piece of the cake
We’ve seen in recent weeks that the attacking threat can stem from anywhere in this Arsenal team, which has certainly created strong value in the ‘less traditional’ targets in the shooting markets. But before we get into those, let’s start with starboy Bukayo Saka.
Bukayo Saka is having another extraordinary season with the Gunners, picking up 13 goals and 8 assists in the Premier League. These figures are very reflective of his performances with the England international putting up 0.87 G+A per 90 from 0.80 xG+xA. Saka has been causing terror for the full backs on the left-hand side and it seems like no one can handle him at the moment.
Saka is in immense form and with a goal or assist in seven consecutive Premier League games, he looks great value to make it eight. Nine goals and two assists in that time so the anytime goalscorer market is certainly a valid selection, but with the rest of the team being so clinical, the assist potential is very valuable.
Moving down the field we have Declan Rice, who’s had zero issues adapting to life in North London. Rice is consistently showing his love for an effort at goal, registering at least one shot in all of his last 14 Premier League matches. He has hit the target in half of those and with Arsenal likely to dominate the ball once again, this could set him up brilliantly to continue that form.
Rice was very prolific against Sheffield United last time out, racking up five shots and three on target, one of which nestled into the back of the net. He was also on target in Arsenal’s 4-1 victory to Newcastle and struck that tremendous effort against West Ham – he looks in fine shooting form right now.
And finally, we have the Brazilian centre back Gabriel. Yes, another defensive-minded player in this oh-so-clinical Arsenal side, but Gabriel unlocks so much attacking threat in Mikel Arteta’s side. He is the joint top-scoring defender in the Premier League this season with 4 goals and Arsenal rack up so many corners at home – which gives him plenty of attacking opportunities.
Gabriel was unable to register any shots last time out but had 1+ shots in four consecutive league games prior to that, all of which he managed to hit the target in, even managing 2 shots on target against West Ham. In his last six league appearances, Gabriel has had 9 efforts at goal, with seven hitting the target – he is sharp and accurate when he gets his chances, and at this price, he looks exceptional value to test the keeper.
Predictions:
⚽ Bukayo Saka to score or assist @ 1.62
⚽ Declan Rice to have 1+ shots on target @ 2.40
⚽ Gabriel to have 1+ shots @ 1.30
⚽ Gabriel to have 1+ shots on target @ 2.88
🛑 Fouls stats: Reguilon to become the next victim
Sergio Reguilon will be on duty for one of the toughest jobs on the pitch on Saturday in defending the in-form Bukayo Saka, which could certainly leave him vulnerable to making a late challenge.
The Spaniard has committed seven fouls across his six starts since joining Brentford in January, including 2 fouls in each of his last two games. With Arsenal playing at their peak right now and Saka being regularly fed the ball to take on his man, Reguilon should be forced into plenty of potential foul situations.
Saka is one of the most fouled players in the Premier League, drawing 2.03 fouls per 90 this season which will certainly cause the Brentford wing back some serious headaches.
With Arsenal seemingly likely to take control of the game once again this could really draw out the impatience amongst this Brentford side and rack up a high foul total. Arsenal have had 65%+ possession in four of their last five and have drawn in a high volume of fouls – 11 (v West Ham), 22 (v Porto) and 15 (v Newcastle).
Brentford have certainly been more prone to being on the receiving end of fouls as of late but that’s not to say they don’t have a sting of their own. Brentford are averaging 10.00 fouls committed per 90 so far this season which correlates very well with Arsenal’s 10.60 fouls drawn per 90.
Predictions:
⚽ Sergio Reguilon to commit 1+ fouls @ 1.17
⚽ Bukayo Saka to be fouled 2+ times @ 1.36
⚽ Brentford to commit 10+ fouls @ 1.50
