The British Grand Prix takes place Sunday 9th July
📺
Live on Channel 4 / Sky Sports F1
This weekend, the Formula 1 British Grand Prix 2023 will be held once again at Silverstone. It’s one of the most classic circuits on a packed calendar, having hosted the race more than 50 times since its F1 debut way back in 1950.
Here, you’ll find Formula 1 predictions and British Grand Prix odds, as the UK gears up for one of its biggest annual sporting weekends. Formula 1 enjoys a massive boom in popularity since the likes of Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen have delighted the crowds with dominant drives. Netflix blew open the paddock to ever more onlookers with its “Drive to Survive” series in recent years. Even Brad Pitt will be out on track this weekend, shooting scenes for the upcoming racing film “Apex” whilst driving a specially modified F2 car – albeit not during the actual Grand Prix itself, of course!
Last year’s British Grand Prix saw a frightening first-corner crash for Zhou Guanyu, many thrilling overtakes, and some of the very best duels of the entire season. That came as part of a frantic battle for the podium between home hero Hamilton, Charles Leclerc, and Sergio Perez. They traded places constantly around the sweeping turns of the 3.6 miles of the former World War II airfield. Carlos Sainz was the man to come out on top for his maiden Formula 1 victory, but if any of the British contenders such as George Russell or Lando Norris can emulate Hamilton’s podium from last year, the British crowd will reach fever pitch!

Hamilton to hoist home trophy aloft?
Formula 1 predictions rely on a whole host of data and analysis, yet there’s something that no stats can account for when it comes to Lewis Hamilton and Silverstone. He’s won there eight times after all, and been on the podium 12 times. The Mercedes driver looks visibly lifted each year at the F1 British Grand Prix. Even in a struggling car last season he fought his way to the podium, and this year the package is a touch more competitive. If there’s a sniff of getting amongst the faster cars and into the top three, he’ll be there to take it.
Carlos Sainz was ruthless as he won last year’s edition of the race, and the Ferrari driver perhaps had the edge over his teammate in Austria last weekend, until a duff strategy played its part on Sunday. Even then he was a comfortable top-six finisher. His car clearly has the pace to finish there again at a track where Ferrari excelled last year.
With British Grand Prix odds of 2.8, this represents a better value option than the expected Max Verstappen win at 1.33. A tempting but lower-value alternative could be a Red Bull to Win and Fernando Alonso to place in the top six at 1.53.

Will flying Ferrari deny Verstappen his Super Saturday?
Looking to Saturday is one way to extend those British Grand Prix odds while maintaining good value.
Red Bull are of course strong favourites to win over the weekend, but they don’t have a history of great qualifying at Silverstone. Their aero package is brilliant, but it has often proved slightly less well-suited to this circuit than others. This opens the door to their rivals slightly for Saturday. There’s a big chance of a damp or drying track mixing up the order a bit in quality, and the Ferrari was just 0.048 seconds away from pole position last weekend.
In the hands of either Charles Leclerc or Carlos Sainz, the scarlet car looks Saturday strong, especially with the new aero upgrades delivering extra performance. The prancing horse has a real chance of snatching pole if anything goes even slightly awry for Red Bull.

Saturday struggles yet serene on Silverstone Sunday?
For a somewhat wilder British Grand Prix F1 prediction, there’s a win from further back offering value.
Changeable weather and the usual grid penalties could easily see a couple of big contenders starting from 5th or beyond. Traditionally it’s hard to win from behind the front row, but even Red Bull are not used to locking out those top spots at Silverstone. A 5th placed start is not out of the question even for Max Verstappen. Yet his car is so quick that starting several places back, this year he would still be the favourite to cruise home in first.
Fernando Alonso said himself that he has “the second fastest car” this season. Sergio Perez has pace at Silverstone. Lewis Hamilton has a remarkable British Grand Prix record in his career. With Red Bull, Ferrari, Aston Martin, and Mercedes all capable of competing, 5th 6th, and 7th on the grid are likely to be packed with contenders come Sunday afternoon.
Recent races have shown that shocking tyre issues, spectacular crashes, or strategy blunders can all leave the order looking rather unexpected when the dust settles at Silverstone.
