Celtic will welcome Braga to Glasgow for a Europa League tie on Thursday evening. Brendan Rodgers’ side opened up their campaign by claiming a well-deserved 1-1 draw away at Red Star Belgrade last week.

The Hoops have since dropped points in the Scottish Premiership, playing out a 0-0 draw with Hibernian at Parkhead on Saturday.

As for Braga, they hit the ground running courtesy of a 1-0 win over Feyenoord last midweek.

Celtic Double Chance @ 1.25

While Celtic have not been at their free-flowing best this season, they have proven to be a tough nut to crack. In fact, Brendan Rodgers’ side have yet to taste defeat inside 90 minutes across each of their 11 matches in all competitions this term, triumphing in six of those contests.

The Bhoys have been particularly strong at the back this season, silencing their opponents on eight occasions. Thus, I think there is a strong enough case to be made for Celtic to avoid defeat against Braga on Thursday evening, particularly after last week’s impressive second-half showing in Belgrade.

While Braga got off to flier with a win over Feyenoord, Carlos Vicens’ side have failed to win each of their last five matches in the Primeira Liga, losing two and drawing the other three. What’s more, none of those five clashes were against any of the Portuguese top flight’s big hitters, which doesn't bode well ahead of this week’s trip to Celtic Park.

Over 5.5 Celtic Corners @ 1.80

Celtic are a team that tend to deliver high corner counts more often than not, particularly when playing on their own patch.

That has certainly been the case this season, with the Hoops racking up a combined total of 29 corners across their three Scottish Premiership home matches this term, hitting double figures in two of those three games. On top of that, Rodgers' side earned a whopping 16 flag kicks when playing host to fellow top-flight outfit Falkirk in the Scottish League Cup earlier this season.

It’s also worth noting that Celtic hit 15 corners against Kairat Almaty in their one and only previous continental contest at home this term so far.

While Braga have not been conceding a high amount of corners this season, I’m prepared to look beyond that here given how prolific Celtic are on the flag kick front, not to mention this will represent the Portuguese side’s toughest away game of the season so far.

Kelechi Iheanacho to have 1+ Shots on Target @ 1.36

Kelechi Iheanacho has made a big impression during his first month at Celtic. The Nigerian forward marked his debut by converting a match-winning penalty in the dying embers of Celtic's recent 2-1 win away at Kilmarnock.

The 28-year-old forward also finished brilliantly to put Celtic in front away at Red Star Belgrade on matchday one. In fact, that was one of three on-target efforts from Iheanacho in the Serbian capital last week.

With the former Leicester and Man City man expected to spearhead Celtic’s attack on Thursday evening, Iheanacho looks well placed to register a minimum of one shot on target against a Braga side that has looked far from convincing across the opening stretch of the campaign.

Carlos Vicens’ team are without a clean sheet in each of their last five Primeira Liga matches, making the aforementioned Iheanacho the prime candidate to capitalise on the visitors' defensive fragility.

Sebastian Tounekti to have 1+ Shots on Target @ 1.44

While Sebastian Tounekti only signed for Celtic towards the end of the summer transfer window, it is already looking like a shrewd bit of business from the Scottish Champions. The Tunisian winger has quickly endeared himself to the Celtic faithful, with his direct style and dribbling skills.

Tounekti‘s ability to cut inside has seen him rack up a combined total of seven shots across his two appearances for Celtic in this season’s Scottish Premiership. A sizeable five of those attempts came against Kilmarnock on his debut, with one of those efforts hitting the target. It’s also worth noting that Tounekti has since opened his account for Celtic, netting against Partick Thistle during a recent Scottish League Cup quarter-final tie.

📈 Celtic v Braga Form & Tactics

It would be fair to say that Celtic have yet to hit top gear this season. Brendan Rodgers’ side were knocked off top spot in the Scottish Premiership in the wake of their goalless draw with Hibs on Saturday. That was Celtic’s 5th stalemate across their last eight matches in all competitions, with four of those contests ending goalless, a sample that includes two of their three outings on the continent this term.

As has long been the case for a number of years now, Celtic continue to be strong corner performers. The Hoops have averaged north of seven corners per 90 in this season’s Scottish Premiership.

After joining the club at the start of September on a free transfer, Kelechi Iheanacho has made a quietly impressive start to his Celtic career, registering two goals and one assist across his first four appearances for the Scottish champions.

Braga caused a mini-upset by defeating Dutch giants Feyenoord 1-0 on matchday one. However, Carlos Vicens’ side were brought back down to earth with a bump when losing 1-0 at home to Nacional in the Primeira Liga on Sunday. That defeat extended Braga’s winless run in the Portuguese top-flight to five matches, and it also prompted their supporters to wave white handkerchiefs at manager Vicens.

Much like Celtic, a number of Braga’s games have been low-scoring of late, with each of their last four matches across all competitions featuring under 2.5 goals, while BTTS would have paid out in just one of those contests.

Braga have drawn an average of 2.58 cards per game from their opponents in this season’s Primeira Liga, while Feyenoord were shown two yellow cards when falling to defeat in Portugal last week.

📔 Celtic v Braga Formation & Team News

Brendan Rodgers’ will almost certainly stick with his tried and trusted 4-3-3 formation on Thursday evening. The Celtic boss is well-renowned for his commitment to a free-flowing, possession-based brand of football, with his team encouraged to build out from the back.

Alistair Johnston and Jota remain long-term absentees for Celtic, however, Auston Trusty could come back into the matchday squad following a period on the sidelines. Summer signings Callum Osmand, Jahmai Simpson-Pusey and Shin Yamada are all ineligible after being left out of Celtic’s Europa League squad.

Braga boss Carlos Vicens’ preferred system this season has been a 3-4-2-1, with both wing-backs given plenty of encouragement to get forward.

Mario Dorgeles, Paulo Oliveira and Sandro Vidigal all missed Braga’s 1-0 loss to Nacional on Sunday, with the latter the only one of the trio having a realistic chance of featuring on Thursday evening. Gustaf Lagerbielke is expected to start against his former club on matchday two.
