Champions League

Kylian Mbappe to Score 8+ Goals

Mbappe has started the season in fine form, with three goals across his three appearances in La Liga so far. He netted seven goals across his 14 appearances in the Champions League last season, which is a total he should be able to eclipse this time around.

There was constant indecision from Carlo Ancelotti last season regarding Madrid’s frontline. Sometimes Mbappe would play as the main striker, sometimes he would play off the left - there wasn’t much consistency for the 26-year-old, who still managed to score 43 goals across his 56 appearances for Real Madrid in his debut year.

Xabi Alonso has cleared up Mbappe's role in this Real Madrid side. He will be trusted to lead the line on his own with Vinicius and cooperating just behind him. This should see Mbappe have a greater chance of finishing amongst the top scorers in the Champions League this season, as well as his role on penalties.

I expect Real Madrid to go deep in the competition, at least reaching the semi-finals, which should give Mbappe enough games to finish as one of the top scorers in the Champions League this season.

Champions League

Lamine Yamal to Score 8+ Goals

I already think Lamine Yamal is the best player in the world, but a Champions League trophy may just cement that status. This goes hand in hand with our pick for Barcelona to win the Champions League. I expect Yamal to be an integral part of any success that Hansi Flick’s side have in the competition this year.

Yamal scored five goals and provided three assists across his 13 appearances in the Champions League last season as Barcelona reached the semi-finals of the competition. Yamal is slowly adding more of a goal threat to his game; he netted seven goals in his debut season for Barcelona, with this rising to 18 goals in the 25/26 campaign. I wouldn’t be surprised to see it rise again here with Barcelona being, in my opinion, the best attacking side in Europe.

Yamal has already started the season strongly with two goals and two assists across his three appearances in La Liga, and we can expect that to continue in the Champions League. Yamal has had 20 shots across these games, reaffirming my suggestion that his goal threat will increase this season.

With Yamal lining up against the likes of Slavia Prague, Club Brugge, Copenhagen, and Frankfurt during the league phase, there should be ample opportunity for the 18-year-old to be in and amongst the top scorers of the competition in the league phase and beyond.

Champions League

Serhou Guirassy to Score 8+ Goals

Dortmund usually do pretty well in the Champions League, they reached the final a few seasons ago only to lose out to Real Madrid, and battled to the quarter finals last season only to bow out to Hansi Flick’s Barcelona.

The best way to describe them is awkward, a trip to play in front of the Yellow Wall is not an easy assignment for any side and that is probably where the majority of Guirassy’s goals will come in the Champions League this season.

Guirassy scored 13 goals across his 14 appearances in the Champions League last season and also went on to score four goals across his five appearances in the Club World Cup. He’s a traditional number nine who is an instinctive finisher which are traits that will aid him in against the elite sides in the Champions League this season.
