The late kick-off on New Years Day sees Crystal Palace host West Ham at Selhurst Park as both teams look to get off to winning ways in 2022. The Hammers currently sit just shy of the top 4 in 5th place with Palace sitting in 11th place under Patrick Viera. Both sides come into this fixture on the back of comfortable wins, both winning by 3 goals at the weekend.
Along with most other teams in the league, West Ham will be without a few players due to covid and many players picking up injuries in this jam-packed festive fixture list, but David Moyes’ side haven’t picked up any new covid cases or injuries since their win over Watford. West Ham look sparse in defence with Ogbonna, Zouma, Cresswell all out with injuries and Spaniard Pablo Fornals self-isolating. However, the Hammers will have their skipper back as Declan Rice returns from suspension, who is set to make his 150th league appearance for the club.
For Palace, they will see the return of their main man – Wilfred Zaha, after he returns from suspension. However, they will be without key players too, the biggest absence being loanee Conor Gallacher who misses out due to Covid-19, the midfielder is actually the Eagles top scorer this season netting 6 goals so he will be a big miss!
I have put together my 3 favourite selections for this televised game coming together at around 9.22 on Paddy Power.
Crystal Palace v West Ham Bet Builder Tips & Predictions
Over 2.5 Goals
There has been no shortage of goals with these two clubs recently. In Crystal Palace’s last 4 Premier League games, there has been over 2.5 goals in each match, with the visitors also in around the goals as well, with there being over 2.5 goals in each of their previous 3 games.West Ham have scored an average of 1.79 goals per game this season and have conceded 1.32 goals on average in each of their games too –averaging 3.11 total goals per game for the Hammers so far.
Palace on the other hand, have scored 1.42 per game and strangely conceded the same at the other end on average too (1.42). Meaning that Viera’s side have just under a total 3-goal average per game at 2.84. With West Ham going into this one with a bit of a depleted defence up against a pretty dangerous Palace attack with the return of Zaha and an inform Edouard, I fancy a few goals in this.
This fixture doesn’t disappoint in the goals department as in the previous 5 meetings between the 2 sides, there have been over 2.5 goals in 4 of these! Including the 2-2 draw at the London Stadium earlier this season. These season stats make for good reading for this selection and with both sides current form I fancy there to be over 2.5 goals in this one. It is nice odds too with Paddy Power offering 1.85 for this selection.
Jarrod Bowen Anytime Assist
Jarrod Bowen seems to just get better and better every game he plays; the Englishman has been spectacular this season which has got people watching him. Including talk of a call up to the England squad, and also speculation of him getting a big move to Liverpool to replace Mohammad Salah if he does not sign his new contract.
Bowen has already racked up an impressive 7 assists in 19 appearances this season. Behind only Salah and Trent in this stat – showing why Jurgen Klopp may have his eye on him. The 25-year-old is in great form, arguably one of the most inform players in the league. With 3 assists and a goal in his last 3 games and is definitely the man West Ham have been looking to in attack recently. He will look to impress not only the West Ham fans coming into the New Year, but also Gareth Southgate as the World Cup edges closer, and he will be looking to make his way into the squad with his current form. At 4.2, I think there is great value in this selection due to Bowen’s current form and I can see him providing once again for his teammates and adding to his assist tally to start off the New Year.
Declan Rice to have 1+ Shots
As I said before, Declan Rice is set to make his 150th league appearance for West Ham on New Years Day as he returns from his suspension after picking up 3 yellow cards. The rise of Declan Rice has been nothing short of extraordinary, at only 22 he is a key player for West Ham and the future is bright for the England International.
We all know Declan Rice loves to try his luck from range, and what way to better celebrate the New Year and his 150th appearance than with a long-range screamer! Or probably a long-range wide effort. Rice averages just under 1 shot per game at 0.78 which can be seen from the Cheat Sheet below. This is backed up by looking at the midfielders last 7 games he has featured in, where he has had an effort from range in 5 of these. Another stat to look at is that he has attempted 14 shots this season in 18 appearances, showing he’s not afraid to have a go.
This looks a good price at 1.44 for the final selection of the Bet Builder and I’m sure Rice will be heavily involved in the midfield after missing out against Watford midweek.
