West Brom fans are getting nervous. They have seen a change in manager bring about the total opposite of a “bounce” and having conceded eight goals in two games, Eric Ramsay is already realising that any honeymoon period is over for him. John Eustace, on the other hand, is beginning to look up at those top six positions with some relish.

📈 Derby v West Brom Form & Tactics
Derby recorded an important 2-1 away win at Charlton in midweek which now puts them inside the top ten, only two points off the play-offs. Strangely, especially for a Eustace team, it has been their home form which has held Derby back, they are ranked 20th in the league for points won at Pride Park, but a win here would see them going into the play-off places ahead of the weekend, and also see them even up that home record at 5-5-5.
Derby actually have the least amount of possession in comparison to the rest of the league at 42% and there continues to be an overperformance in their attacking output, ranking 8th for goals scored whilst languishing 19th for xG and 22nd for shots on target. Things are more consistent defensively, but they are still lower midtable for both goals and xG conceded.
Oh wow, what a start for Eric Ramsay this has been. Generally second best against Middlesbrough but bringing it back to 2-2 only for a last minute goal to deny him an opening point, they were then taught a lesson by an improving Norwich City, losing 0-5 in a match that has Baggies fans looking over their shoulders at the bottom three.
Taking the season as a whole, one wouldn't expect West Brom to be in a position to worry. They are a solid 12th for expected goals, fifth for shots on target, but an indication of one of their bigger issues comes when noting that they are fourth for big chances missed.
However, the biggest issue that needs to change is the differential between goals conceded and chances conceded. WBA are 23rd for goals conceded in the league now, but still fourth for xG conceded. It goes without saying that this is the biggest gap in the league.
📔 Derby v West Brom Formation & Team News
John Eustace has been pretty consistent with a 4-2-3-1 set up. Despite the loss of Carlton Morris, their investment in young US striker Patrick Agyemang looks to be paying off with Agyemang bringing a goal return to add to his physical gifts.
The return of midfielders in recent weeks has been a real boost, with strength in depth in central midfield allowing some rotation in this tough time. David Ozoh in particular is a welcome return and he is likely to play alongside Liam Thompson here. Max Johnston and Dion Sanderson join Carlton Morris on the sidelines.
West Brom have tried to move to a 5-4-1 under Eric Ramsay, which, as defensive as that sounds, has been a disaster from a defensive point of view. There may be a new formation for this match as a result, but I suspect that Ramsay might stick to it away from home at first to see if it make a difference.
The good news from a WBA perspective is that that have an almost full squad to choose from. Ousmane Diakite and Tammer Bany may be the only first team absentees.
