Eintracht Frankfurt v Napoli Cheat Sheet
Eintracht Frankfurt v Napoli
Tuesday night sees Eintracht Frankfurt host Napoli at the Deutsche Bank Park in what will go down as a historic night at the Hessen club. Last season’s Europa League winners meet Serie A leaders Napoli in what should be an enthralling fixture between two of Europe’s most exciting teams.
Oliver Glasner’s Eintracht Frankfurt come into this fixture after a relatively comfortable 2-0 win against Werder Bremen. Makoto Hasabe and Auerilo Buta were both rested but we can expect to see the duo return on Tuesday night. In attack, the attacking trio of Jesper Lindstrom, Mario Gotze and Randal Kolo Muani is one of the best trios in European football, and is rivalled by Napoli’s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Matteo Politano and Victor Osimhen.
One defeat in 23 league games and 15 points clear, Napoli have been unmatched in Italy this season. Luciano Spalletti’s Napoli come into Tuesday’s game with five consecutive wins, scoring 12 goals and conceding just one. Osimhen has attracted attention from Europe’s biggest clubs with 18 goals and three assists in 19 Serie A games this season, and has struck up an incredible relationship with Kvaratskhelia, who himself has 10 goals and nine assists in 19 games.
Napoli are certainly the better team here, but Eintracht Frankfurt will make it difficult. They know what it takes in Europe, beating the likes of Barcelona in last season’s Europa League on the way to their triumph. Eintracht fans will also make it difficult for Napoli at the Waldstadion.
Both teams are also at near full strength. Only Sebastian Rode is a doubt for Eintracht Frankfurt after missing Saturday’s game through injury, but it’s unlikely that he would displace the midfield partnership of Djibril Sow and Daichi Kamada. Meanwhile Giacomo Raspadori has a hamstring problem but wouldn’t have started ahead of Osimhen.
Frankfurt have scored in all four of their home matches since the World Cup and they are averaging three goals per game over that period. They have a fanatical home support and the stadium should be rocking when they welcome Napoli on Tuesday night. However, Spalletti’s side represent a definite step up in class and alarm bells will be ringing after they conceded three goals against Koln less than 10 days ago.
Napoli have kept a clean sheet in their last four matches; winning three of those by a two goal margin and one by a three goal margin. Frankfurt will pose an attacking threat but the visitors are at a very good price to win here.
Victor Osimhen is one of the most lethal marksmen in world football. The striker has showcased his ability on numerous occasions this season and has built-up a mouth-watering highlight reel of goals. He possesses great pace and has the power to hold off defenders. He also has a keen eye for goal and has the instinct to always take up dangerous areas to be there for a tap-in. Incredibly, all 18 of Osimhen’s goals have come from inside the box but a number of them have been superb. His last game against Sassuolo came from an improbable angle and was struck with tremendous power.
The Nigerian has nine goals in nine matches in 2023. He will want to carry his domestic form into the Champions League in order to make his mark in Europe’s most prestigious club competition.
2.30 is a fairly short price but it’s hard to resist the bet when Victor is in this sort of form. Osimhen has an xG of 16.8 in his 18 league games this season and he is outperforming this stat. This highlights just how clinical he is.
An arrival from Nantes on a free transfer in the summer, Randal Kolo Muani is one of Europe’s most sought after forwards, alongside Osimhen. The Frenchman has scored 10 and created 10 in 20 Bundesliga games for Eintracht Frankfurt this season, and offers a unique skill set. Although a central starting position, Kolo Muani likes to drift wide and occupy the half-spaces – this could suit the Frenchman against Napoli’s back-four. Kolo Muani likes to utilise his explosive pace and when in one-on-one situations, often finds himself through on goal.
Kolo Muani has scored 6 in his last 5 games from an xG of 4.2. The 24-year-old’s finishing is reminiscent of a certain Thierry Henry and he certainly has the skillset to cause Napoli’s stable defence problems. Only RB Leipzig, Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich average more Chances Per 90 than Eintracht Frankfurt (7) and averaging 1.6 Shots on Target Per 90 in his last 5 Bundesliga games, Kolo Muani only needs a sight of goal before opting to take a shot.
