The U21 EURO final is set to be a real spectacle, with two traditional rivals facing off for a chance to lift the trophy. England will be looking to retain their title having won the competition in 2023, a competition in which Lee Carsley was also in the dugout.

Germany will be hoping to get their hands on the trophy for the first time since 2021 and will be optimistic of their chances of harming England, spearheaded by Nick Woltemade who is the top scorer in the tournament with six goals to his name.

England and Germany have been the best two sides in the competition, so we should get a well contested final here. There isn’t too much between them in the odds for who will lift the title, with both teetering around evens at the moment to win.

There are two players that have stood out for these sides across the tournament and are worth highlighting for this final. Harvey Elliott has stepped up as England’s main man in the knockout stages, with a goal against Spain followed by a brace against Netherlands. He’s been the standout performer for England throughout the tournament and has real momentum coming into this final.

For Germany, Nick Woltemade has been the main name in the headlines. The Stuttgart striker is a really unique player, standing at 6’6 but having the technical ability of a nimble wide player. He has scored six goals in the competition so far, netting in all four of his starts in the competition.

England have seen BTTS in four of their five U21 EURO matches so far, while Germany have seen this pick land in three of their five fixtures. These two sides have already met in this tournament, with Germany winning 2-1 and BTTS landing.

Lee Carsley deserves immense credit for taking this U21 side to back to back EURO finals. It’s almost a completely different squad this time around, but Carsley has been able to implement his ideas really effectively, especially in the knockout stages of the competition.

England have improved as the tournament has progressed, they started the tournament quite timidly with only one win from their three games in the group stages, but a few clever tactical switches by Carlsey allowed England to push on and reach the final.

Jay Stansfield was brought into the side against Spain and England looked a lot more comfortable with a clear number nine in the side, they benefitted from Stansfield’s work off the ball in particular. Carsley also moved Livramento back to right back after initially deploying him as a left back, Jack Hinselwood has stepped into that role and has also looked very impressive, which is further testament to the tactical nous of Carsley.

Elliot Anderson has impressed throughout the tournament in a slightly deeper role and could offer a potential solution to the senior side in that role. James McAtee and Harvey Elliott have been the most influential players in the final third for England, mirroring the impact of Anthony Gordon and Cole Palmer when England lifted the trophy in 2023.

🇩🇪 Fast Starters Germany Will Look to Strike Early

Germany have been the strongest side over the course of the entire tournament and are yet to lose a game. They’ve been clinical when chances have come their way, mainly thanks to Nick Woltemade who has caught the eye of several teams around Europe with his performances in this competition.

Germany had to battle quite hard against a nine man Italy side in the quarter-finals, it took them until the 117th minute in extra-time to break the resolve of the Italians, who got themselves back into the game with a superb free-kick.

They followed this up with a 3-0 win over France in the semi-final, taking a 2-0 lead inside 20 minutes. England need to be wary of Germany’s fast starts - they’ve scored 2+ first half goals in four of their five games at the U21 EURO this campaign. Germany are a bit vulnerable at the back, they were incredibly fortunate not to concede against France and could be without Max Rosenfelder here, who went off injured against France.

📊 England U21 v Germany U21 Head-to-Head Key Stats

These sides have already met in this tournament with Germany coming away as 2-1 winners. We cannot draw too many conclusions from this game seeing as both sides rotated as it was the final group game.

England will also have higher confidence levels heading into this final than they did that final group game, having seen off Spain and Netherlands in the knockout stages.
