Thursday’s Europa Conference League Accumulator Tips
Belgian side Gent faced a tough test away at Chelsea on matchday one and while they caused the Premier League side plenty of issues, they still lost the game 4-2. However, Gent did pick up their first victory of the Conference League proper in their next game at home to Norway’s Molde, running out 2-1 winners.
Thursday’s opponents Omonia Nicosia of Cyprus made light work of Vikingur Reykjavik in their opening game but a trip to Scotland to face Hearts brought Omonia back down to earth as they slipped to a 2-0 defeat.
Omonia have now lost two of their last three European outings, both away from home, while Gent have won four of their last five in Europe, including each of their last three at home.
We’re not expecting a goal-fest between Ireland’s Shamrock Rovers and Welsh side The New Saints in the Conference League this week.
Shamrock’s last home games in this competition ended in a 1-1 draw with APOEL and three of their last five outings in Europe have produced under 3.5 goals. Each of The New Saints’ last four European matches have witnessed fewer than four goals, including their opening two games in the Conference League against Fiorentina away and Astana at home.
Shamrock might have put four past Northern Ireland’s Larne last time out, but they go up against The New Saints on Thursday, a side that only conceded two goals away at Serie A side Fiorentina and kept a clean sheet at home to European regulars Astana.
Chelsea are the overwhelming favourite to beat Noah on Thursday and we’re expecting plenty of goals to be scored at Stamford Bridge.
Enzo Maresca’s side have won their opening two Conference League games and on each of those occasions, the Londoners scored four goals and failed to keep a clean sheet. Noah are a little known side from Armenia who, in qualifying for this competition, lost their second leg away at Ruzomberok 3-1 and scrapped through that tie 4-3 on aggregate.
We can see Chelsea scoring another four goals in this game simply down to the quality of their attacking players and the fact that the Premier League side haven’t kept a clean sheet in any of their last eight fixtures suggests that Noah might well get on the scoreboard themselves.
Italian side Fiorentina make the trip to Cyprus this week to take on an APOEL side that have lost three of their last four European games, including their last match at home to Borac Banja Luka.
Fiorentina boast a 100% record in the Conference League after two games, thanks to wins against The New Saints and St Gallen. The Serie A side, who sit fourth in their domestic table, head into the game against APOEL as the big favourite with the bookmakers and on paper, the visitors have a far superior squad.
Raffaele Palladino’s side are unbeaten in their last four European games and have scored six times and conceded twice in their opening two Conference League fixtures. Striker Moise Kean is in great form for the visitors, netting three times through qualifying and into the Conference League proper.
We’re expecting goals when Hearts play host to German side Heidenheim on Thursday, particularly as both teams have picked up maximum points from their opening two fixtures.
The Scottish outfit scored twice in each of their opening two victories, beating Dinamo Minsk 2-1 in Belarus and then securing a 2-0 home win over Omonia Nicosia. Just like Hearts, Heidenheim picked up a 2-1 win on matchday one at home to Olimpija and then claimed a 1-0 win away at Pafos.
Both teams have now scored in three of Hearts’ last five European outings, while three of Heidenheim’s four games in the Conference League (including qualifiers) have also produced goals at both ends of the pitch.
Legia Warsaw will be hoping to use their home advantage on Thursday to extend their 100% start to life in the Conference League.
Our Polish hosts have beaten Real Betis and TSC all without conceding a single goal and sit third in the Conference League table behind Chelsea and Fiorentina. Visiting Dinamo Minsk arrive with a complete opposite record to Legia Warsaw having lost their opening two against Hearts and HJK, scoring just one goal and conceding three.
Legia Warsaw have looked really sharp in Europe this season where they are unbeaten in all eight matches, which includes six qualifiers, picking up seven wins and one draw.
