Many claim the Premier League table never lies but without Everton’s ten-point deduction Sean Dyche’s team would be comfortably sat in 12th place.
However, this isn’t the case and the Toffees are well and truly in a relegation battle. Their recent form hasn’t been anything to shout about either, although a trip to North London to face Spurs this year isn’t easy, and neither is it when facing Man City.
Yet a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Wolves followed before a stalemate 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace in the FA Cup adds an unwanted fixture to the list.
Aston Villa, on the other hand, are flying high in second place. Unai Emery has been working his magic all season long, and minus the disappointing 3-2 loss to Man United at Old Trafford, the Midlands club remain in pretty good form.
Wins vs Brentford, Burnley, as well as Middlesbrough in the FA Cup, has kept momentum going, and currently only three points behind Liverpool has put them well and truly in the title race.
Everton vs Aston Villa always feels like a classic Premier League encounter, but Dyche needs to return to winning ways if they are to avoid relegation to the Championship.

🏆 Match stats: Visitors to continue to mount a challenge
Aston Villa certainly expected to see improvement this season but not many would have fancied them to be where they are at the halfway stage. Still, there’s plenty of football still to be played and Emery will need to keep his players grounded.
A trip to Goodison Park isn’t always the easiest place to go. Just ask Newcastle and Chelsea who both left empty handed, without scoring, in recent weeks.
Everton were able to get their noses in front against Man City, but a well-fought comeback in the second half from Pep Guardiola’s side kept their pressure on those fighting for the title.
Villa, however, have been phenomenal on the road this season. After their slip up against Forest, they beat Spurs and Brentford, drew with Bournemouth before somehow throwing away a two goal lead at Old Trafford.
Still, Emery’s side have proven capable on their travels this campaign, and with one team looking up and the other down, that’s exactly how it could play out on Sunday.
With Everton having only picked up six points from their last five matches, as well as conceding eight in the process, it’s worth sticking with Villa to keep up their good run of form. At the prices, draw no bet offers a safety net in case they can’t quite get over the line.
Predictions:
⚽ Aston Villa draw no bet @ 1.75
🎯 Shooting stats: Douglas Luiz offers nice value
Ollie Watkins has been Aston Villa’s main man this season, but the England international has failed to find the back of the net in his last four matches.
With goals being spread amongst the team, not only will this please Emery, but their fluid attacking play provides us with plenty of options within our bet builder.
However, it is their Brazilian midfielder which I’m going to focus on. The 25-year-old not only scored against Burnley, but he also had four shots – three of which were on target.
The penalty taker also had a shot at Old Trafford, and he’s already beaten his goal tally of six from last season with six months of the season still to play. He isn’t afraid to shoot from range, often found prowling around the 18-yard box, and against teams who stand off, he’s more confident in progressing forward with the ball.
Goals against Hibernian, Crystal Palace and Brighton this season prove that point.
With Watkins happily providing the assists of late, playing more of a hold up striker, this allows Villa’s central midfielder to advance up the pitch and get involved in their attacking play.
Everton have been shipping goals left, right and centre at the moment, and Villa must exploit that.
Predictions:
⚽ Douglas Luiz to have 1+ shots @ 1.25
⚽ Douglas Luiz to have 2+ shots @ 2.5
🟨 Card stats: Right-backs the place to look for card bets
Everton have picked up at least three yellow cards from their last three Premier League matches. Right-back Nathan Patterson has noticeably picked up four yellow cards in his last four matches, with the 22-year-old being targeted by clubs to run at.
Playing with five at the back, Everton’s four man midfield can be quite narrow, which gives room to opponent’s wingers to drive at their full-backs. With Patterson still learning his trade, he’s vulnerable to a mistake or two.
With Villa possessing plenty of pace; including Jacob Ramsey, Leon Bailey and Moussa Diaby all capable of running into the channels, Patterson could once again find his name in the referee’s book.
The other right-back likely to start is Villa’s Ezri Konsa, who has also seen his name in the referee’s book on five occasions this season.
With four bookings in his last five matches across all competitions, including in three away matches, Konsa will have to be more careful at Goodison Park.
However, Dwight McNeil possesses plenty of pace and has arguably been one of Everton’s better attacking players. After strong performances against Chelsea and Newcastle at home, where McNeil scored against the Magpies, Konsa could be in for a difficult afternoon.
Predictions:
⚽ Nathan Patterson to be shown a card @ 3.75
⚽ Ezri Konsa to be shown a card @ 5.0
