LIONS PRIDE could bounce back to form after a last-of-five effort in this class at Goodwood. He wasn’t best suited by the small field that day but should be more at home, returning to the all-weather surface – he is two from four on synthetic tracks, including a brace of victories at this venue. Hamish would be the one to beat if at his best (top-rated officially) but has to overcome a tame run at Newmarket.

LORDSBRIDGE BLU improved on second outing, when reaching the frame on all-weather debut at Chelmsford. The Havana Grey gelding finished his race off well that day, suggesting this rise in trip would suit. His main rival, Prophet’s Path, has the form to get off the mark, and from an official rating of 79, sets the standard. Our selection has to give a weight-for-age allowance of 6lb to Prophet’s Path but may be able to improve beyond him, especially after just two starts.

JUMBEAU isn’t the most consistent sprinter but certainly bounced back to something like her best, when a solid third at York at this level. The Brazen Beau filly is worth upgrading in that contest, as she raced far away from the winner, on an unfavoured part of the course. Although 2lb higher than her last winning mark, she has the ability to play a hand in the finish from an each-way perspective. She was also second on her sole attempt at this track, which is a positive.

MONTASSIB has something to find on official figures, with the main protagonists in this Group One prize, but it doesn’t appear the deepest of races on paper. The improving three-year-old pair of Inisherin and Elite Status are likely to head the market but aren’t clear of their rivals on official ratings. Our selection has plenty of top-quality handicap form to draw upon and scored in a Group Three on the all-weather last time. A strong-travelling type, Montassib’s claims would be enhances if there was a strong pace in the race, considering he is a three-time winner over the longer 7f distance.

ZIGGY’S PHOENIX is dangerous to dismiss at double-figure odds in the fillies handicap over a mile. The Richard Hannon-trained Kodiac filly bounced back from a luckless run here when scoring at Goodwood last time. She was prominent throughout – and despite racing slightly awkwardly when hitting the front – had plenty left at the end. A small rise in the weights wouldn’t be a concern but she is upped in grade. She could outrun her big each-way odds.
