I am very active within the FPL community and run a monthly meet called FPL EDINBURGH meets. We get together, watch the games and meet the person behind the twitter handle. I also run a podcast called @_TheDoublePivot chatting football matchups and how that translates into FPL picks - I have also been a guest on many other FPL shows. I love F1 fantasy, keeping fit, and spending time with family.

In this article...

We've come to the end. Only 2 GWS remain, but there is still much to discuss. Are Man City still an option after failing to score & are the lesser-owned players more likely to haul, all will be revealed and more.

This is the best place to find all the essential information you need to know to continue your march towards top spot in that work league!

⚔️ Gameweek 36 Review - 54 Points (43 Average)

Free hit fun and another green arrow too! Though the lure of triple Man City, including captain Haaland, didn’t pay off, it was still another good week towards a great finishing rank. It started well with low-owned Collins earning a clean sheet and two bonus points, then Gvardiol also on a clean sheet. We expected Nottingham Forest to shut out Leicester, but my gut feeling was realised as they conceded two, and the double defence did not go to plan.

Midfield did the leg work as Mbeumo, Elanga and the magnificent Eze combined for two goals, two assists and 29 points. Forwards looked so strong on paper, but they just didn’t deliver. Even the most avid player makes a mistake from time to time, and not playing Munoz over Milenkovic wasn’t the best decision, but luckily, we still scored highly. These are all good lessons for next season... Every day is a school day.

📋 Gameweek 36 Transfers Recap

Each week so you know @FplVeteran is doing the demanding work for you, we revisit key decisions from last week's review. This GW, we revisit my Differentials. It seems that if you have at least a few of these risky selections each week, they would give you a better finishing rank. Something to consider next season, myself

The Best 3 Transfers IN for Gameweek 37

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Ollie Watkins – Aston Villa (£8.9m, 19.4%)

The best transfer in this GW by far. A goal v Bournemouth has got managers discussing him as a selection again, but much like the other choices this week, the main draw is his final two fixtures. Spurs and Man United are two sides that have accepted their fate in the league and are bordering on neglect, the way they played this GW.

This will only grow around the time of the Europa League final, as that one game is both their entire seasons inside 90 minutes. A goal and assist in his last two, Watkins is primed for an explosive end to the season. Villa at home are mighty strong. Winning seven in a row (including beating PSG) and scoring 16 goals in the process, and I just can’t see Watkins not registering points v Spurs. I have already transferred him in for Isak. Are you considering the same move?

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Eberechi Eze – Crystal Palace (£6.9m, 13.5%)

Three in a row and in form. Eze was on target again, scoring two goals, three bonus and totalling 16 points: his biggest of the season so far. Four goals in his last three games and another electric performance, this time out against Tottenham. Four shots in total, 88% passing accuracy and one big chance created proves he was everywhere, and Spurs just couldn’t deal with him.

The only issue stopping him from being a top player is injury, and this season he has managed to stay fit much more. His brace this GW takes his tally to 11 goals for the season, his best ever, and he shows no signs of slowing down. Remaining games v Wolves and a Liverpool side that are already on the beach, I think, could provide more points than managers realise.

You need to pack your team with five midfielders, and Eze should be included for maximum opportunity. He is staying in my team for the remainder of the season, and though he just scored his highest GW points all season, who’s to say he won’t score higher?

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Jarrod Bowen – West Ham (£7.7m - 12.4%)

Hammering in the points with four in a row. Last week he was on the differentials list, and this week he has been elevated to the transfers in. As we said, Bowen always finishes the season with a bang, and indeed he is with three goals and two assists in his last four matches. Bowen is West Ham’s talisman and is the main attacking outlet, being involved in five of the last 6 goals (83%).

A perfect last GW fixture against an already relegated Ipswich side who will be low on morale and whom against Bowen already has form this season. At home, West Ham put four past them with Bowen scoring and assisting for a 12-point haul. Before that, they play a Nottingham Forest side that is currently classed as a medium fixture due to their recent drop in form, and I think Bowen gets something. Much like Eze, he is locked in my team for the season, I’m just surprised his ownership is still so low at only a tad over 12%. If you can fit him in, then definitely do it. It won't be a bad move, I promise you.

The Best 3 Transfers OUT for Gameweek 37

🇧🇷 Matheus Cunha – Wolves (£7.1m, 15%)

One week in, the next out. Though I currently own the forward, watching him this GW I find myself wanting to transfer him out more and more. Cunha often plays wherever he wants on the pitch, and yes, while it more often than not brings points (including usually two or three BPS) there is the occasional game where he can go missing. But it’s the pitch temperament that worries me. Having already received a ban this season for misconduct, receiving a yellow before half-time had me worried a second was coming, and that would have been his season over.

Before the conclusion of the season, he will, of course, try to continue his good form and push for that summer transfer to a top team, but tough remaining games v Crystal Palace and Brentford will see his chances limited. You want to try and keep as many FTS for the last GW of the season (GW38) as possible, and I feel keeping him in my team could easily turn into a required transfer. There are plenty of better options for the remaining games, he is out for me; is he for you?

🇪🇬 Omar Marmoush – Man City (£7.5m, 27%)

Surprisingly benched this GW. Yes, we know it’s a Pep team and you can never be one hundred per cent sure that players will always start, but even with the likes of Erling Haaland coming back into the side, most thought there would have been room for Marmoush. As a non-owner, I was more worried he moved to his favoured position, and with Haaland keeping the defenders occupied, he would haul, but not many players can do much with only six minutes on the pitch.

One of the rules for scoring highly in FPL is to select players that are certain for 90 mins and if I’m honest with you, I don’t have the faintest idea how much he plays over the final two games. He could start and score a brace, or he could come on for three minutes and a one-pointer. With the easy sideways move to Haaland ensuring you don’t have any FOMO (Fear of missing out) and possibly a huge haul that we know Haaland can muster at will... Are you willing to risk it? My top transfer out this GW.

🇷🇸 Nikola Milenkovic – Nottingham Forest (£5.2m, 18.5%)

I finally noticed it. The Nottingham Forest drop-off has been severe. Only one win in the last six games, conceding nine goals in the process and scoring only nine FPL points overall, I have been blind to his form dip. Now we all have that soft spot for certain players for no reason whatsoever, and for me, it’s the big Serbian. Possibly one of the best transfers in the league this season, solid as a rock and can score a goal or two – it's easy to see why I favoured him.

But with Forest crumbling at the worst time and even the owner lambasting the manager in full view of the fans, its finally time to admit his slot in my team is finally up for this season. West Ham and Chelsea are the games left for him, and though West Ham is seen as an easy fixture, with their form and many matches at the end of the season going against popular predictions, I don’t see a clean sheet for him.

Missing the injured Murillo next to him is huge and means he won't go forward as much at corners, taking away any potential attacking returns and further reducing his favourability as an asset. If he manages to remain in my team, it’ll only be the bench for him.

Top Tip – Still got a chip left to play?? Don’t worry, I have got you covered. If you have Free Hit, Wildcard, or Bench Boost left, keep your eyes out for my midweek Chip Usage Special. With every single point being vital, this will increase your chances of winning that mini league for ultimate bragging rights!

🦸 Gameweek 37 Captaincy Selections

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Ollie Watkins – Aston Villa (£8.9m, 19.4%)

Finally, a rare GW without the choice being between either Haaland or Salah, and this isn’t a differential captain for the sake of it. Watkins plays a Spurs side that will be playing the kids due to their European adventures. Even their first starting eleven conceded multiple goals in most games, so for me I think Watkins scores highly this GW.

Alternative Captain Options

Mbeumo v Fulham looks good with the Cottagers looking sluggish, Salah v Brighton, I honestly think he has one big haul left in him. Bigger risk-wise, Palmer v Man United or Chris Wood v West Ham look inviting.

Top three for me this GW are: Watkins, Mbeumo, Salah.

👁️ FPL Veteran's Vision and Verdict

The big decision this week is Bench Boost GW37 or 38? I am edging towards making two or three transfers potentially for a -4 to then hit the chip button. Transfer-wise wise I’m looking at Robertson, Burn and Cunha out for Keane, Digne and Watkins. Watkins is the only locked change; the remainder I will wait closer to the deadline for last-minute team news.

Many tough decisions await, but the certainty is that I will be taking slightly more risk for maximum upside (fingers crossed). For your team, think carefully about each and every starting player. Even though some players are out of form, they could still return, so look elsewhere for more vital changes. At the end of the season, many players we don’t expect to pop up with huge scores, and you may be taking one of them out. Check out my X throughout the week for my updated and final team.

Good luck team!

Remember – This week the deadline is at 18:00 on Friday 16th.
